Stinging insects cause discomfort and negative emotions in people. And especially the hornets. Not only is their sting poisonous, but they are also impressive in size. They, of course, help people by killing harmful insects in their garden. But a meeting between a hornet and a person can end sadly for health. Therefore, we need to fight such neighbors.
Why are hornets dangerous?
The venom of this insect is one of the strongest allergens. The sting goes deep into a person’s flesh and is not so easy to get out. The bite site swells rapidly, intoxication spreads throughout the body. This can lead to anaphylactic shock and even death. A hornet bite is especially dangerous for allergy sufferers, children and the elderly. But its poison will not add health to a healthy person.
Where do hornets like to live?
Insects do not live alone. Hornets need nests to live and reproduce. They prefer to build them where they are difficult to detect.
These could be the walls of houses, attics, tree hollows near the apiary. Hornets also love non-residential places: barns, garages and even doghouses. As well as walls, window openings and cornices.
With the onset of cold weather, the insects die, leaving only the queen to spend the winter. When it gets warm, she will lay eggs, young ones will emerge from them, and everything will start all over again.
Therefore, the most convenient time to get rid of flying pests is winter or early spring.
Methods of control in the house and on the site
If a hornet's habitat is found in the house or attic, it is better to call specialists. But there are also folk methods of struggle.
It is better to destroy the nest at dusk. At this time of day, insects are less active. Be sure to take maximum precautions. The body must be completely covered, gloves on the hands, and a mosquito net on the face. Antiallergic medications are on hand. In case of multiple bites, a person should be immediately taken to the hospital.
Bag
A family of insects can be exterminated using a bag or plastic bag. To do this, you need to treat it with an insecticide and knock down a nest into it. Tie the bag tightly and burn it.
Chemistry
Places where hornets accumulate can be disposed of using chemical sprays. But after treating your home with Dichlorvos, Mosquitol or other aerosols, you need to use a respirator. The premises should be left for a while. Then wash everything thoroughly and ventilate.
Fire and Water
It is easier to fight poisonous neighbors in open areas with water and fire. Earthen nests are poured with boiling water or burned out with fire. The same can be done with other hornet habitats. But there is a possibility of fire.
Traps
The trap can be a product specially purchased in a store or made by yourself.
In store-bought traps, insecticides act on insects. It poisons the individual, which dies on the spot or flies to the nest and infects its relatives.
In the home version, it can be meat poisoned by any chemical. An effective trap is warm water with honey and boric acid, left near the nest.
If the hornets have chosen a hollow in a tree, then it can be sealed at night with clay and putty.
In order not to make unpleasant stinging neighbors at your dacha, you need to treat the area twice a year. And then life outside the city will be a joy.
