Strawberries are one of the most capricious plants in the garden bed. It requires proper, timely care almost all year round, before, during and after flowering. The quality of the harvest depends on proper pruning of the plant. Gardeners, even the most experienced ones, often make a number of mistakes in this matter.
Short trim
Unlike the mustache, which is recommended to be trimmed to the very root, strawberry stems should not be cut short. This slows down the process of flower and ovary formation and can negatively affect the quality of the harvest.
The stems should be left approximately 10 centimeters high. In this case, the growth zones remain undamaged and will continue to bear fruit after restoration.
Mowing bushes
Gardeners who grow strawberries in large volumes often fail to use pruning shears on every bush to get rid of old leaves. In this case, all the bushes are mowed at the same time, which is not recommended.
The fact is that the synthesis of special substances necessary for “laying in” the harvest for the next year occurs in young foliage. During mowing, the growing new leaves are damaged, which can negatively affect the development of strawberries and subsequently the future harvest.
You cannot mow bushes of different varieties at the same time, since one variety may already have young shoots emerging, while the other has just stopped bearing fruit.
Damaged and weakened leaves should be removed, while the leaf rosette - the heart of the plant - should be intact. This will ensure the free passage of sunlight and air.
Picking off mustaches and leaves
If you pick off the leaves and tendrils of a strawberry, you can injure not only the plant itself, but also its root. For pruning, use pruning shears or sharpened scissors. If the bush is uprooted, it means that it is weak and is unlikely to bear fruit in the future. You shouldn't plant it in the ground again.
Incorrect use of tools
It is recommended to handle the tool more often during work so as not to spread the strawberry mite. Pruning strawberries from different years of planting should be done in a certain order - from young to older bushes. This will prevent the pest from being transferred to young plants.
Proper pruning, timely, in compliance with all technologies, appropriate care of the tool - a guarantee of an excellent harvest, even for such a fastidious berry as strawberries.
in the last photo with young leaves - exactly my question - are these leaves sick?? and then I cut them out...
This is a tick, you need to uproot the bush
Why uproot the bush, you just need to treat it with Actelik, Iskra, etc.... Don’t mislead a person if you don’t know anything yourself. According to your method, everything in the garden must be uprooted and lived in a field or in the desert, because various pests are constantly being discovered
