Autumn has come. The latest products are being assembled. Soon the greenhouse will be empty, and it will be necessary to start cleaning and preparing it for the new season.
Regardless of what the greenhouse is made of (well, perhaps with slight differences), the following actions are required in any case:
- general cleaning in the greenhouse;
- soil improvement;
- disinfection of greenhouse structures;
- audit of all related inventory and equipment used in the greenhouse.
spring-cleaning
The first step is to remove all debris, including all plant debris, old supports, ropes for tying plants and other similar temporary structures. After this, you can begin to wash the greenhouse structure with disinfectant solutions. For these purposes, a solution of bleach with copper sulfate or a ready-made Bordeaux mixture is suitable. You can use drugs such as Trichocin, Farmiod.
Soil improvement
If the soil has been used for more than 5 years, it is advisable to replace it with a new one. To do this, the top layer of soil is removed to the height of the spade bayonet and a new one is scattered in its place in an even layer. It is better to bring replacement soil from another place.
If the soil has been used for no more than 2-3 years, it is enough to sprinkle fertilizer on top of it - organic mixed with mineral, and then dig over the entire area to the depth of a spade bayonet. It is better not to break large clods of earth - this way the earth freezes better in winter and pathogenic microorganisms and bacteria naturally die.
Disinfection of the greenhouse premises
It is carried out to destroy pathogens, spores, and insect larvae. The most popular for these purposes are sulfur bombs. When using them, you must take precautions and use personal protective equipment. If using sulfur bombs is difficult, you can spray the entire greenhouse with Trichocin or Farmiod.
After disinfection, not only harmful, but also beneficial microorganisms die. Therefore, after this procedure, it is necessary to spill the soil with Fitosporin, Baikal, Em-Bio or other similar preparations in order to repopulate the soil with beneficial bacteria, which over the winter months will process the soil and make it favorable for growing healthy and tasty vegetables and herbs.
Inspection of greenhouse inventory and equipment
Drip irrigation systems are becoming increasingly popular, but in order for them to last as long as possible and be effective, they require care and attention. Clogged or damaged hoses will not provide the necessary watering to the plants. Before you roll up all the hoses, you need to rinse the entire system with water with the addition of Bordeaux mixture or Trichoderm, let it dry and then roll it up.If you leave it in a greenhouse over the winter, the hoses may burst under the influence of severe frosts.
If the greenhouse is equipped with additional heating systems, you should check all the wiring, repair all faults and put everything that should not be exposed to dampness and low temperatures in a dry room for the winter.
And the last steps that are necessary for the greenhouse to withstand the harsh winter and be fully prepared for the new season. To prevent it from collapsing under the pressure of strong winds or heavy snowfalls, you should think about supports that will support the greenhouse structure in such cases. In case of heavy snowfalls, it is better to still find an opportunity to clear the snow from the roof of the greenhouse.
