Solutions for powdery mildew
Powdery mildew is a white coating on the leaves, shoots of strawberries and on their fruits. The first signs appear on the lower leaves, and gradually the coating covers the entire bush. The disease suppresses the plant, reducing its resistance to winter frosts. Powdery mildew occurs due to improper watering.
The following effective methods will help get rid of the disease:
- Watering or spraying with mustard solution. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of mustard powder per 10 liters of warm water.
Water the plants with the solution every other day, alternating with water. - Spraying the bushes with a solution of whey. Ingredients: a liter of whey, yogurt or kefir per 10 liters of cold water.
Spray every three days. - Spraying with soap and salt solution. Ingredients: 40 g of laundry soap and 2 tablespoons of table salt per 10 liters of water.
Treat bushes once a week.
Treatment of fusarium
Fusarium wilt is caused by hot, dry summers or weeds in strawberry beds.Signs of the disease appear in the form of drying leaves, stems, roots and even berries.
This disease should be treated as soon as possible, otherwise the summer resident risks being left completely without strawberry bushes. As soon as the first signs appear, all affected bushes must be dug up. After which the soil is well shed with one of the solutions:
- Light solution of potassium permanganate.
- Soda solution with iodine. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons of soda, 5 ml of iodine per 10 liters of water.
- Flour solution. Ingredients: 1 glass of dolomite flour per bucket of water.
Brown spot
A dangerous, difficult to treat strawberry disease. Small brown spots appear on the leaves as early as April. Over time, if measures are not taken to get rid of the fungus, the spots spread throughout all the bushes: inflorescences, ovaries and tendrils. By mid-summer, during the rejuvenation of the plant, the disease is almost invisible, but this does not mean that it has receded.
Periodic spraying of strawberry bushes will help you forget about brown spot:
- Iodine solution with soap and soda. Ingredients: 40 g laundry soap, 30 g iodine, 30 g soda.
- Pink solution of potassium permanganate. Ingredients: 5 g of potassium permanganate per bucket of water.
- Wood ash solution. Ingredients: a glass of wood ash per liter of water. Leave the mixture to brew for a day in a dark place. Dilute the infusion in 10 liters of water.
Getting rid of white spotting
White spot is another common strawberry disease. Small red-brown spots on the leaves gradually turn white. Over time, the stains turn into holes in the sheets.
To completely get rid of the fungus, you need to remove already infected bushes.And as a preventive measure, spray the leaves of the remaining plants with a weak solution of iodine: 30 ml of iodine per bucket of water.
Anthracnose
The fungus is introduced into the soil through the tubers of bushes or on the soles of summer residents. But the disease develops during rainy weather in late spring or early summer. Anthracnose manifests itself in several stages. Initially, the leaves turn red and dry out, the stems and shoots become covered with dark spots. And the last stage is watery, turning into black ulcers on ripe berries.
They fight the fungus by evening spraying of strawberry bushes, 3-5 times per season:
- Iodine-soap solution. Ingredients: 20 g of laundry soap, 30 drops of iodine solution per bucket of water.
- Garlic infusion. Ingredients: 200 g chopped garlic per 10 liters of water. The solution needs to stand for a day in a dark place.
In this way, you can save the bushes of the plant and not lose the berry harvest, perhaps without the use of expensive chemicals, but use available folk methods.
