5 mistakes in spring grape care that can seriously affect the harvest

A rich grape harvest is the result of a far from random chain of events. It is in the spring that it is important not to make mistakes and provide the grapes with proper care.

Errors in opening the vine

With the arrival of spring, it's time to take the vine out of its winter shelter.

It would be a mistake to open the vineyard without first aerating it, or to open it too late. Condensation in this case leads to waterlogging of the soil, rotting of the root system and death of the vine.

Another mistake is to open the bed when the average daily temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius. The plant does not easily tolerate frost, and if the vegetative system of the stem is damaged, there may be no harvest at all.

No treatment with iron sulfate

Spring warmth is deceptive, so sap flow must be temporarily suspended.

If this is not done, frost will lead to destruction of stem cells. A dry vine can easily withstand temperature changes, and it is iron sulfate that helps slow down the awakening of the bush.

Vitriol also prevents infection by pests and dangerous diseases that become active in the spring.

Error in tying and pruning grapes

Gardeners make a mistake when they tie up grapes too late.

Late garter carries a high risk of dangerous infections. In addition, it will be difficult to form the correct bush, as a result of which the quantity and quality of the harvest will decrease.

Simultaneously with the garter, it is recommended to shape the vine by pruning, which must be done before buds form, otherwise there will be a high risk of drying out.

Error watering grape bush

Plant beds require a lot of moisture in the spring. If you don't water deeply enough, they may dry out and fail to produce a harvest.

Frequent watering is excluded - you should irrigate the soil half a meter from the shoots with 30 liters of water every two weeks. Before the first watering, it is necessary to deeply loosen the soil.

It is recommended to do the first abundant watering immediately after removing the cover, and the last one - when 2-3 weeks remain before flowering.

Fertilizer application

A common mistake is to exclude potassium fertilizers along with watering.

According to the rules, even before removing the cover, it is necessary to add 5 grams of potassium to each well along with superphosphate (20 grams) and ammonium nitrate (10 grams). Dosages are indicated per bucket.

Organic fertilizers cannot be applied directly under the bush; this is also a mistake. Fertilizers must be placed in a ditch 40 cm deep at a distance of 50 cm from the bed.

At the end of the spring season, potassium and phosphorus fertilizers are also applied with irrigation, otherwise the yield will be low.

The collection of large and healthy bunches of sweet berries is preceded by the painstaking work of the gardener, the correctly selected grape variety, analysis and preparation of the soil for planting, as well as caring for the vine during its spring awakening.

If everything is done correctly, the grapes will definitely please their owner with large, healthy and sweet fruits.
