On cloudy days of the last month of winter, it's time to plant seeds for alyssum seedlings - a real decoration of the site and garden. The plant is unpretentious and has many varieties of all shades of the rainbow. This flower will please the eye from May to October in any region of the country, but subject to the use of several tips.
Moon phases
The lunar calendar has a direct impact on the germination and growth of plants. 2 days after the new moon, you can confidently begin sowing alyssum and continue working until the full moon. These are the most favorable days for gorgeous flowering of seedlings in the future. In terms of time, it is best to give preference to the morning hours.
Soil features
Alyssum seeds are planted in soil with a neutral or slightly acidic pH. It can be bought in a store or prepared at home with the preliminary addition of compost. To obtain lush seedlings, you need to choose a low, spacious container, pour drainage and soil at the bottom in a layer of at least 5 cm. The seeds are evenly distributed over the surface at a short distance from each other and pressed shallowly into the soil with a finger.
Temperature conditions
A box located on the windowsill will help the seedlings get enough light and warmth. It is optimal to place it on the sunny side of the house and cover with cling film.A thermometer is placed on the ground to constantly monitor the temperature, which should not fall below +10 °C.
Watering and ventilation
Every day at sunrise, the film is removed from the box until the evening, then it is closed back and the phytolamp is turned on. This will allow the alyssum seeds to receive the required amount of light and oxygen. Proper soil moisture is the second condition for germination and rapid growth of seedlings. The water should be warm; it is better to use a spray bottle before sprouts appear. Then you can start regular watering with a watering can.
Picking
After 20 days, the first shoots appear, and then visible leaves. It's time to replant the seedlings. To do this, we prepare peat pots and, without damaging the roots, remove the grouped plants. We carefully divide the seedlings into separate ones, place them in new pots and water them.
Perennial and annual varieties of alyssum are equally pleasing to the eye when flowering on the territory of a country house and in any flower beds. Caring for it from the moment of sowing until frost is quite simple. And in addition to the beautiful buds, in the evening and at night this plant will also captivate you with its delicious aroma.
