Flower growers who are passionate about growing orchids know how capricious the plant can be. Often, outwardly, the flower does not look sick, but still dies. The reason lies in diseases of the plant roots. Therefore, it is important to try to revive an orchid whose root system has only rotted. Moreover, the plant simply needs help, since due to careless care, different parts of the orchid disappear.
An effective remedy is succinic acid.
To prevent the roots of the plant from rotting, fertilizing is done in the form of succinic acid. This is an effective stimulant for growing the root system.
The product is available and sold in pharmacies, and can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription. To get rid of rotting roots, take 2 tablets of the product and dissolve in 500 g of boiled, settled water. Then wipe the leaves and the growing point of the flower with a moistened swab. Perform the procedure very carefully to eliminate excess moisture in the sinuses of the leaf plates.
Available method: root pruning and activated carbon
In order for an orchid to please you with its appearance and smell for a long time, it needs proper care. If there are rotting roots, then urgently save them from absolute death. Shorten the root system to healthy green tissue using sharp scissors disinfected in alcohol. Sprinkle the cut area with activated carbon.
If, after getting rid of the rotted roots, a fungus is visible in the flower pot, then dip the plant in warm water and treat the cut areas, and then soak it in fungicide twice, so there is no need to immediately replant the orchid in the ground. Folk remedies - soap solution and more
If the roots of an orchid begin to rot, it can be saved with the help of folk remedies. The most famous method is a soap solution. To prepare it, you need a bar of laundry soap, which is diluted in a container with 2–3 liters of settled water. The roots are immersed in the prepared solution for several minutes.
The next method for treating orchid roots is a solution of cyclamen tubers.
To prepare it, follow simple steps:
- chop the tubers and boil for 30–40 minutes;
- leave the broth for at least a day;
- strain, dip the roots into the prepared solution.
You can use olive oil (two tablespoons per 1 liter of water) or onion infusion. An onion decoction is used to heal orchid roots. To do this, take several onions and boil for 20 minutes, let the broth cool and leave for 12 hours. Then hold the roots of the plant in the resulting solution for 5–7 minutes. But this method is suitable only in the early stages of the disease.
Method of growing the root system in water
If the roots are in the process of rotting, but there are still leaves, the easiest way to save the plant is to grow the root system in water.To do this, remove the damaged shoots, treat them with ash and dry them for 1-2 hours. Treat the roots with chemicals to prevent recurrence of the disease.
Popular products include Intra-vir, Aktara, Vermitek and other products that help save the roots of the plant. Florists advise keeping only the tip of the plant in water and systematically renewing the water. New roots will appear in 2 months.
A method for reviving roots using honey or sugar syrup
There is another method that can help the plant restore its roots. Add 1 tablespoon of honey or sugar syrup to an aqueous solution (1 liter of liquid). In addition, it is recommended to use the following for watering the flower:
- complex fertilizers;
- iron fertilizing;
- monthly fertilizing with a growth regulator.
This option will help you quickly cope with the problem of the root system.
Roots are rotting - it means the plant was not cared for properly. This often happens in the fall or winter, when the orchid does not have enough sun and warmth.
