Hyacinths are the first spring flower of extraordinary beauty. There are many varieties, each of which has special distinctive features - color, bud size, petal shape. Growing hyacinth at home for any holiday is not difficult if you follow certain recommendations and tips.

The first spring flower of extraordinary beauty is hyacinths. Growing hyacinths at home for any holiday is not difficult if you follow certain recommendations and advice.

What should the pot be like?

A pot made of any material can serve as a container for growing hyacinth. The following container parameters are considered an important condition for normal development and growth:

  1. It is advisable to choose a low but wide pot.
  2. It is better to choose clay containers. The material will regulate soil moisture.
  3. There must be drainage holes in the bottom.

Fulfilling these conditions when choosing a container is enough for the plant to “feel” comfortable.

Selection of planting material

To get a beautifully flowering bush, you must initially select high-quality planting material:

  • Be sure to choose onions that are dense and without damage;
  • the bulb should be more than 6 cm in diameter and weigh about 70–80 g;
  • The age of planting material at the time of planting should be at least 2–4 years.

It is possible to place several copies in one container, the diameter of which must be at least 15 cm.

Preparation of soil mixture and direct planting

Hyacinth does not grow in highly acidic soil.To grow a flower, you should prepare the following substrate:

  1. 2 weeks before planting, it is worth “hardening” the material for planting. Place the bulbs in a dark place at a temperature of 11–12 °C. During this time, the buds of future leaves will break through.
  2. Place 1.5 cm of expanded clay on the bottom of the pot. Pour 0.5 cm of river sand on top of it. Mix high peat and sand in a 3:1 ratio and fill the rest of the pot space.
  3. After the container is ready for planting, you need to pre-treat the planting material. It is worth removing the brown scales to reveal the bulb as much as possible.
  4. Place the onions in the pot. If you plant several specimens, the distance between them should be 2.5-3 cm, then sprinkle with soil mixture so that 2.5 cm remains at the top.
  5. Using a spray bottle, moisten the top layer of the substrate. Cover the pot with dark polyethylene and put it in the refrigerator for 2 months. Water periodically.

Hyacinth

After 2 months, the stem will be about 5 cm high. After 2 months, remove the pot with the plant and place it on a sunny windowsill. In a month, the bush will grow and “throw out” an arrow to flower.

What to pay attention to during the growing process

During the growing process, some metamorphoses may occur with the plant, which will signal problems and improper care.

  1. If the leaves begin to turn yellow at the edges, it means that at the very beginning a small onion was selected and subjected to forcing.
  2. When the buds begin to fade quickly, you should choose a more suitable place for the flowerpot - remove the pot with the flowering plant from the sun and away from heating devices.Reduce the room temperature to 12 °C.
  3. If the edges of the leaves begin to dry out and curl, it is worth checking the bush for the presence of pests, viral and bacterial fungi.

Planting hyacinth

You should carefully monitor the irrigation regime, as the flower does not like excess moisture and high air temperatures.

What to do after flowering

After the flowering of the specimen stops, you can immediately plant the bulbs in open ground. Then the plant can bloom again. For this to happen, it is worth adding nitrogen-containing fertilizers to the prepared hole. You can remove the bulbs from the ground after the growing season has completely stopped.

Top dressing

During the second flowering period, you need to periodically feed the bush. A universal option would be a liquid fertilizer prepared from potassium salt, ammonium nitrate, superphosphate, taken in a ratio of 1:2:1.5.

Growing hyacinth is not a difficult process, so many lovers of early flowers plant just such a flower in pots. It is easy to care for the plant, since almost the entire time of germination the pot with the onion remains in the refrigerator under a dark film.
