Simple and effective ways to return color to faded items

It's always nice to wear clothes or use things in the house that look like they were just purchased. Modern liquid solutions and powder detergents wash any fabric well, but sometimes such troubles as the appearance of stains on clothes or dullness of their color occur.

Linens shed during the washing process for several reasons.

The molting factor most often becomes our inattention, when we do not set the temperature correctly or do not take into account the presence of patterns on white clothes.

Sometimes an unscrupulous manufacturer who uses low-quality fabrics, threads or accessories is also to blame for damage to an item. In any case, you have to decide what to do with damaged underwear or outfits - throw it away immediately or try to resuscitate it? There are several proven methods that will help cope with the problem; they are used separately for colored and snow-white linen.

White faded: what to do?

On white T-shirts, blouses, and bed linen, stains of different colors may remain, which are formed when a small colored and faded item gets into the drum washing machine. The trouble can be seen immediately as soon as you start hanging things out to dry, and it is at this moment that you can quickly return the outfits to their original appearance.

Stains from damp laundry are the easiest to remove, so re-washing does not need to be delayed for several days.

There are several common and effective methods for removing stains from white items, you can use the one that suits you best.

  • To remove stains, you need to prepare a special mixture. We will need one spoon of shavings from laundry soap, half a glass of regular table salt, a spoon of starch and citric acid. The mixed dry mass is diluted with water until thick and then applied to the stain, the item should be left for half a day, then rinsed thoroughly.
  • Our grandmothers removed stains and stains from white linen using ammonia. Pour a hundred gram bottle of ammonia into a basin of very hot water and, after mixing the solution, place the damaged item in it for 2-3 hours, after which it is rinsed well. The only drawback of this method is the unbearable smell of ammonia, so the windows should be open.
  • You can bleach delicate fabrics with three percent hydrogen peroxide. For 2 liters of water you will need a spoon of pharmacy hydrogen peroxide, a small amount of baking soda. The prepared mixture is heated to 70 degrees, after which the clothes are placed in it. For bleaching this way, it is enough to keep the fabric in the solution for about 10 minutes, but during the holding process it is necessary to constantly turn over the soaked clothes. If the bed linen has faded, then a large amount of the solution will be required - the entire volume of the components must be increased proportionally.
  • Ordinary potassium permanganate copes well with removing gray and colored stains from snow-white linen. In a bucket of hot water, you need to dissolve half a glass of powder and a few grains of potassium permanganate so that the solution becomes pinkish. Then the item is immersed in the bucket, and the container is closed with a tight lid for several hours. After exposure, the clothes are rinsed.
  • You can also remove stains of different colors from white things using regular bleach - chlorine or oxygen. The bleach is diluted according to the detailed instructions attached to it and the item is soaked in it for the specified time.
  • If there are several stains on clothing, you can use a special stain remover. The solution is applied to the stain and left for the required time, after which the item is washed.

return color to faded whiteWorking with bleach requires careful use. It is not recommended to keep items in bleaches for a long time and use this method too often; under the influence of aggressive agents, fabric fibers become fragile and at any moment the clothes can be hopelessly damaged.

If you notice a stain on an expensive white blouse made of thin fabric after washing, then before you start washing it again with bleach, you need to test the selected product.

To do this, a small amount of it is applied to similar waste fabric or a small piece is processed on the wrong side of the product. If you notice that the material has changed its structure, then there is no need to take risks - it would be safer to take the blouse to the dry cleaner, where they will return it to you absolutely clean.

If colored things have faded

Colored dresses, blouses and any other outfits washed incorrectly can fade and become less beautiful. There are several ways to revive an item damaged in this way:

  • If you believe that stains on the clothes appeared during the washing process from other things, then you need to wash the outfit one more time, the water temperature should reach 60 degrees (naturally, if the fabric of the product allows this).
  • Special color restorers are produced for bright, colored items. They must be used strictly according to the instructions, as these chemicals are strong.
  • You can also restore the original appearance of faded material on clothing using bleaches. But make sure that its packaging is marked “Color”, this means that the solution is safe for washing colored items.
  • The brightness of the color of clothes returns even after using ammonia. For five liters of hot water, you will need two bottles of pharmaceutical ammonia; soak the item in the resulting solution for about one hour, after soaking, rinse thoroughly and dry.
  • In hardware stores you can see the Antilina product; it is intended for removing foreign paint from colored substances. Use the product according to the attached instructions.

save colored faded thingsIf any attempts to return the original color to the product fail, then you can repaint the clothes in a different color using special dyes. Faded jeans can also be bleached or, conversely, made dark. There are many fabric paints available; you need to buy the one that matches the type of material. You won’t have to think about returning the original color to your favorite outfit if you do the following after purchasing:

  • A new colored outfit should be washed in warm water, then rinsed and soaked for an hour in cold water with a few tablespoons of salt or table vinegar dissolved in it. This method allows you to fix the paint and means that in the future the clothes will look like new for a long time.
  • Before washing, be sure to carefully study all labels on clothing. Choosing the wrong temperature or type of powder also leads to a decrease in the color intensity of the item.
  • Sometimes in stores you can find special napkins designed for washing colored laundry. They are placed in the drum of the machine and prevent colored outfits from dyeing into other shades.

There are a lot of ways to return things to their snow-whiteness or brightness of color, and in most cases there will be one suitable specifically for your damaged item.

If you have not achieved the desired effect, then use the help of dry cleaning workers - professional craftsmen know how to restore freshness to paints.
