Smoking is one of the most common habits today. Of course, not every person (and not every second person, to be honest) suffers from this “habit,” but if there is at least one smoker in the family, then the only result is an apartment that smells completely of tobacco. And if in the summer such problems are solved very simply - windows are open wide open all day, then in the cold seasons the situation becomes more complicated.

So, how can you get rid of this annoying and truly pervasive smell?
- The easiest way, as well as the most obvious, is to simply quit smoking. Then the smell will gradually disappear and will not reappear. But, unfortunately, this method requires very high motivation, and not every smoker has it.
- Natural aromas can banish unpleasant odors, including tobacco odors, for a while. For example, you can cut an orange peel and put it in an open container, which should be placed in places with the strongest “aroma”. Coffee beans can be used for the same purposes. Unfortunately, such natural air fresheners are very short-lived - only one or two days. But despite this disadvantage, there is also an advantage - citrus fruits or the invigorating smell of coffee will replace tobacco.
- Also, to eliminate the smell of tobacco, you can use essential aromatic oils - besides, they can be found in any pharmacy, and you can even choose the scents of your favorite fruits or herbs. The recipe for making such a natural freshener is also quite simple - add sea salt to a glass bowl and add the above oil. Three or four drops will be enough. But this method also has negative sides - such manipulations only lead to masking the smell, but not to its complete removal.
- If none of the above mentioned works, well, or is not available, then there is a method that does not require anything beyond what each person has. To get rid of the annoying smell, you can use your favorite perfume. Naturally, a simple spray into the air is unlikely to help, so you will have to use something more tricky, namely, spray a cold light bulb in the lamp. When the light is turned on, the room will immediately be filled with a fresh smell that will drown out the tobacco. Aroma lamps work approximately on this principle. But you should follow safety precautions - you can only apply perfume to a cold lamp, otherwise it may simply burst, and certainly will not emit a pleasant aroma. By the way, aroma lamps can also help, and a nice plus is that you don’t have to risk using light bulbs, and the aroma will still be pleasant.
- There is another way - vinegar. Water is mixed with apple cider vinegar in a one to one ratio. The resulting solution should be used to wipe the surfaces of cabinets, tables, shelves and other furniture in the apartment - the smell of tobacco is also strongly absorbed there. True, after such cleaning, all rooms should be well ventilated, otherwise one unpleasant smell will simply replace another. You can also wipe the wallpaper with the above solution, but first wring out the cloth well and carry out the process itself gently, without pressing hard on the walls.
- One of the chemical ways to get rid of tobacco in an apartment is a mixture of ammonia (half a glass), baking soda (a quarter glass), the same amount of vinegar and three liters of water. It can be labor-intensive to prepare, unlike other methods, but, again, unlike others, the solution removes the smell of tobacco completely. The resulting product is used to wash all floors and surfaces on which a deposit of cigarette smell forms. When washing, you should carefully monitor the stains - if they appear, the smell will not go away. As soon as the solution you are using becomes completely dirty, you need to make a new one and continue washing.
- An important point is that about seventy percent of all tobacco smell in an apartment lingers in textiles, and especially in carpets. Naturally, if there is carpet or carpet on the floor in your rooms, then it smells quite strongly of tobacco. You can get rid of the smell on the latter using special carpet detergents (by the way, it is better to use a washing vacuum cleaner). If you don’t have a specialized product for the above at hand, you can also use home remedies - for example, mix shampoo with baking soda. This mixture gently cleanses the carpet of unpleasant odors without damaging it. After cleaning (by any method), the carpet must be dried.
- You can also use ordinary soda - this will get rid of the annoying “aroma” on the floor. The entire surface of the laminate or parquet should be covered with a thin layer of soda - everything should be removed with a vacuum cleaner after a day. This is not a very effective method, as it does not work the first time. Usually two or three such steps are required to achieve the desired result. In addition, it will not be possible to enter such a room - and this is very inconvenient and embarrasses all the residents.
- You can remove the smell in the kitchen with plain rice - just leave it in an open bowl. The rice will absorb all the smell like a sponge.
- If the smell of smoke has permeated even children's toys, bedspreads and pillows, then you should use rather radical means - for example, bleach. All of the above must be soaked in a bleach solution (or “whiteness”), and then rinsed in warm water with a small amount of soda to finally get rid of unpleasant odors.
- A fairly effective method is grated soap. The resulting flakes should be mixed with soda, and the surface of any home furniture should be wiped with the mixture. Also, if you dissolve it in water, you can wash soft toys, clothes, blankets, etc. But it all depends on the type of fabric - for some it is simply unacceptable to use soda and soap.
- There is also a very simple, but popular method in Soviet times - you need to wet terry towels, preferably with cold water, and then simply hang them in the apartment. A wet cloth will absorb unpleasant odors, and as a bonus, they refresh the apartment and increase air humidity. After the towels have dried, it is better to wash them separately in the washing machine.
- Naturally, you can simply cover up the smell of smoke with other strong odors. For example, sweet pastries are perfect for this purpose - you just need to leave the oven open after cooking and place the dish itself on the table. Thus, there are also two benefits - a pleasant aroma and a tasty dish.
- You can also use the achievements of modern technology - flavors that are plugged into a power outlet.Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week - it’s unlikely that the smell of tobacco will be able to resist after that. If the family has engineering talent, then you can install a small fan in the ventilation shaft - all odors will be expelled from the apartment. Although, perhaps not completely, which is also a good result.
The result of all this will be advice to quit smoking - it will definitely benefit your health, and not only yours. Moreover, the longer the apartment is “smoked,” the more difficult it is to remove the ingrained stench.
An interesting article, of course, but actually, it’s the 21st century and there are a lot of means to remove the smell of tobacco. Duftasmok, for example, perfectly kills the smell of tobacco. It’s easier, and you don’t have to invent anything.
