A fur coat is indispensable in frosty weather and is a favorite type of outerwear among the fair sex. To make an expensive item look beautiful and stylish, you need to take proper care of it. Maintenance includes cleaning the lining; dirt on it can ruin the appearance of the product. It is not necessary to use dry cleaning services; the lining of a fur coat can be cleaned at home.

How to clean lining at home
Girls, when wearing a fur coat every day, do not notice small stains on the lining. Over time, the material becomes more contaminated, the stains become more noticeable and increase in size. There comes a time when they should be removed; they are clearly visible. In order not to spoil the product, you should use the instructions for removing stains:
- Prepare a steamer, it can be purchased at any sewing supply store;
- Carefully remove the lining from the fur product, do not use scissors, a blade or a razor, the devices will greatly damage the fur, do not tear off excess threads, they will damage the fur, a hole will form, it will ruin the appearance;
- Pour warm water into a small container, monitor its temperature, it should not be higher than 40 degrees, otherwise the lining material will shrink;
- Dilute washing powder in water, it is better to use it in a liquid consistency, this type does not leave white spots and streaks, unlike the dry type, ordinary soap without dyes is used for preparation;
- Soak the lining for 15 minutes, then gently wash by hand, rinse thoroughly in warm water;
- The lining should be dried in a ventilated place, without using a battery, as this may cause it to shrink in size;
- The lining material dries and is carefully sewn to the fur product.
You need to sew the lining to the fur coat with a thin needle; it will allow you to sew it quickly and efficiently, and will save the fur coat from unnecessary holes.
Alternative methods
If the lining of the fur coat is clean and there is only a small speck, then you should not tear it off from the product. There is no need to rip off the lining material, there is an alternative method:
- Prepare a weak soap solution, a cotton cloth, a sponge and a hanger; use the sponge clean; do not use it after cleaning any item;
- The product must be turned inside out and hung on a hanger;
- Dip the prepared clean sponge into the soapy solution, wring it out, and gently begin to wipe the dirt until it completely disappears;
- When cleaning, it is better to pull the lining material to its maximum length, the fur will not get wet, and the lining material is easier to clean from contamination;
- After removing the stain, rinse the area with clean water, this is done with a sponge, the main thing is to ensure that the temperature of the liquid should not exceed 40 degrees;
- Blot the lining with cotton material to remove excess liquid and moisture;
- Leave the fur coat to dry with the lining facing out; do not use additional sources of artificial heat, they will negatively affect the product and ruin the fur.
Often girls are afraid to completely rip off the lining of a fur coat; an alternative method is considered an excellent option for them.
For owners of long fur coats, the bottom of the lining often gets dirty. In order not to clean the entire lining, you need to sew a strip of the same material along the bottom of the product; it is better to take it 30 cm wide. When it gets dirty, tear it off, wash, dry and carefully sew it back. This method will allow you to quickly remove all dirt on the hem, and you will not need to rip off the entire lining material.
Also, special cleaning products for this purpose are perfect for cleaning the lining material. They can be purchased in specialized stores. Each such product has instructions for use, which should not be neglected so as not to spoil the fur product.
How to clean various stains
Not all stains can be cleaned with a simple soap solution. There are stains that can only be removed when using certain products:
- Sweat stains. This type of contamination can be easily removed from the lining material using a mixture of denatured and ammonia. The components should be mixed in equal proportions. After this, apply the product to the stain and leave for 10 minutes. After time has passed, wash off with warm soapy water, followed by clean water.
- Cosmetics. To remove stains from cosmetics, you need to mix a small spoon of ammonia, the same amount of any detergent, and dilute the substance with 150 ml of warm water. Apply to the stain, rub until completely removed, leave for 10 minutes. Rinse off with clean water.
- Greasy dirt. Grease can be easily removed from the lining material using dishwashing detergent.Add a couple of drops to a glass with clean warm water, add to the stains, rub with a sponge until they are completely removed. Afterwards, rinse with water. Grease stains can be easily removed with a crust of black bread. It is necessary to wipe the problem area with a small piece, then wash off the crumbs with a solution of soap and then water.
- Food stains. Food stains can be easily removed with wet wipes. To do this, thoroughly wipe the area of contamination. You can use any wet wipes, and they can also perfectly clean your fur coat of other types of dirt.
Any type of contamination can be removed using the old method. To do this, you need to mix a tablespoon of starch with cold water, stir thoroughly to form a paste that resembles dough in consistency. Apply to the stain, wait 10-15 minutes until the product dries. After this, remove from the stain, wipe the area with soapy water, and rinse with warm, clean water. The main thing is not to use boiling water, it will ruin the lining material.
What not to do
Often the fair sex does not understand how to properly care for a fur product, so a fur coat can quickly lose its luxurious appearance. In order not to spoil it, you need to carefully study the rules, which you absolutely cannot do at home:
- Do not wash the entire fur item, otherwise the fur will deteriorate and lose its appearance, and the skin will become dry and rough; after washing in the washing machine, the lining material may decrease in size;
- If during cleaning the fur becomes damp, the girl is exposed to heavy snow or rain, there is no need to use a fan or hair dryer for drying, the devices will damage the product;
- You cannot use an iron; it will not help correct creases and unevenness, but will only spoil the appearance of the product;
- A fur coat should be stored in a fabric case, the main thing is that it does not let in light;
- To get rid of moths, you should not use aerosols; it is better to put a few naphthalene tablets in the closet.
If you follow the basic rules of caring for a fur product, you can keep it looking beautiful for a long time. This will avoid unnecessary costs. In summer, it is better to hang your fur coat in the fresh air to ventilate it. Do not forget about the lining material, it requires regular care, affects the quality of the entire product, and speaks of the care of the owner of the fur coat. It can be cleaned in special dry cleaners or independently at home, and all recommendations must be followed.
