An indispensable umbrella in everyday life: how to dry, clean, wash and store a popular accessory?

Like any thing made of fabric, it needs care, which has its own characteristics.
Drying an umbrella correctly
The drying process depends on what material the dome is made of.
If nylon is used, it is not recommended to dry the product open, because this fabric is quite flexible. After each drying in this way, the nylon will stretch, shrink, the load on the spokes will increase and the tension will weaken. If the accessory is made of another material, be it polyester, eponge, polyvinyl or twill - dry in any desired way.
Recommendations for drying nylon products:
- Close the wet umbrella without folding: fold the machine, but do not fasten it, leave the cane half-open;
- Shake off the water;
- Hang it by the loop on a hook to dry away from heating devices and direct sunlight (they cause the material to fade);
- After drying, shake it again, carefully roll it around the frame, fasten it and put it in a cover.
Drying products made of other fabrics:
- Shake off the water from the wet umbrella;
- Lay it open on the floor, or hang it half-closed away from heating devices and direct sunlight (they cause the material to fade);
- After drying, shake again, carefully roll around the frame, fasten and put into the cover.
It is most convenient to dry and store reeds in special stands; thanks to them, the products are stored in the correct position and do not get in the way, and the stand itself fits stylishly into the interior.
How to wash an umbrella
Dome fabric, like any other, needs to be washed and cleaned. To understand how to wash a product, look at what kind of dirt is on it.
Types of pollution:
- Dust;
- Dirty spots;
- Persistent dirty stains;
- Rust;
- Faded colors.
Getting rid of dust and dirty spots
- Soak the half-opened umbrella in warm, soapy water for 20 minutes. Instead of soap or powder, you can also use alkaline shampoo;
- Gently wipe the material with a sponge. Do not forget to carefully handle the edges and folds, they are the ones that get dirty the most, but do not forget: the fabric is impregnated with a special water-repellent composition, so you need to clean it carefully so as not to damage it;
- Rinse under running water;
- Shake off the water and leave to dry.
If this method does not help, wipe the dome with a sponge soaked in rubbing alcohol before washing.
Washing stubborn dirty stains
Difficult stains from the surface of the dome are removed using ammonia:
- Dilute 2 tablespoons of ammonia in 1 liter of water;
- Apply the liquid to the fabric on both sides;
- Leave to dry.
Getting rid of rust
- Take a clean rag and soak it in lemon juice;
- Wipe the frame and, if necessary, the fabric surface;
- Rinse the product with running water;
- Dry.
How to refresh your color
- If the matter is black, use strong black tea or coffee infusion.Simply soak a rag in the liquid and apply to the dome. After this, rinse and wipe with water and vinegar (2 tablespoons of acetic acid per 1 liter of water).
- If the dome material is colored, the same solution of water and vinegar will help to refresh the paint. Wipe, rinse with water and let dry.
Never use solvents such as gasoline, kerosene or acetone to clean the surface.
Umbrella storage
Storage is divided into 2 types: short-term and long-term.
A few rules for short-term storage:
- The accessory must be thoroughly dried before folding and putting away, otherwise an unpleasant odor and even mold will appear;
- It is not recommended to place heavy objects on the umbrella, as this may damage the mechanism;
- The storage place should be dark and cool.
Features of long-term storage:
- Wash the umbrella;
- Dry and wipe the parts;
- Lubricate the metal structure with machine oil;
- Carefully roll up and pack in a case;
- Place in a cool, dark place.
As you can see, caring for an umbrella does not require special preparation or special tools. By following these simple recommendations, your assistant will serve you for a long time.
