Do you need air washers in your home?

Polluted air in the home is a common cause of respiratory diseases. Ventilating the room around the clock will not solve the problem - dust and exhaust gases enter the room from the street, which is why home air washing remains one of the most popular types of climate-controlled household appliances.

Functions

The device performs two functions: moisturizing and cleansing. The sink passes air through a special container of water, saturating it with moisture. Cleaning occurs due to the retention of small particles of dust, wool, pollen and allergens on the device disks. Having become heavier due to saturation with water drops, the latter fall to the bottom of the tank, and upon leaving the sink, the air becomes humidified and clean.

The equipment has a simple device - a fan, a tray with water, plastic discs and a drum. The latter is half immersed in water and rotates during operation of the equipment, driving air through the disks, as a result, dust and other harmful particles remain on them. The resulting dirt is washed into the tray. The latter, like the discs, must be washed in a timely manner so that the water remains clean.

Modern models of air washing have not only the function of hydrofiltration. If desired, the consumer can purchase a device with:

  1. deep cleaning function (due to the presence of additional filters);
  2. ionization system (saturation of air with negatively charged ions);
  3. antibacterial cleansing function (destruction of bacteria, viruses and mold);
  4. aromatization function (the device has a special capsule into which you can add various aromatic oils).

The user can use strong and weak air purification, night mode, in which the device operates silently.

Uses and benefits of air washing

In the house, in hot weather or with the heating radiator on, it’s hard to breathe; the level of humidification, at the required 45%, barely reaches 15%. This factor causes frequent colds and infections - unmoistened mucous membranes do not protect the body from bacteria and viruses entering it. The content of allergens (dust, wool) in the air causes the development of bronchial asthma and allergies. The sink humidifies the air and purifies it, making it as fresh as after rain.

The benefit of the device is that it:

  1. Serves as a prevention of allergies or reduces the frequency of attacks.
  2. Reduces the number of diseases of the ENT organs.
  3. Promotes skin care, which is important for women, since wrinkles appear earlier on dry skin. With sufficient air humidification, a protective barrier appears on the skin, which prevents the formation of rashes and irritations on it.
  4. Takes care of interior items. Wooden furniture and parquet deteriorate from exposure to dry air; with sufficient humidity, their service life is significantly extended.
  5. Makes life comfortable because you don’t have to breathe dirty and dry air.
  6. Helps increase concentration and performance.
  7. Maintains a humid microclimate in which indoor plants grow better.
  8. Eliminates the need for frequent cleaning, as there is less dust in the house.

In addition to the above, air washers have significant advantages:

  1. Reliable in operation and have a long service life.
  2. Eliminates the smell of tobacco smoke and other unpleasant odors.
  3. Use little electricity during operation.
  4. Unlike some types of humidifiers, they do not heat the water, so their improper use cannot cause burns.

Clean and moist air is a panacea for the human body, so buying a sink is a sign of concern for health. If possible, it should be available at home for families with small children, people suffering from frequently recurring diseases of the ENT organs, as well as residents of large cities where there are industrial facilities.

Harm and disadvantages of the device

Air washing can be harmful, but only if the device is used incorrectly. If the water in the device body is not changed, pathogenic microorganisms may accumulate in it. By multiplying, fungi, bacteria and mold enter the environment and spread throughout the room. As a result of non-compliance with operating rules and untimely cleaning of the reservoir and plates of the device, bacteriological contamination of the room is possible, and this is fraught with diseases of the lungs, bronchi and ENT organs. Cleaning the device parts should occur once every 3-4 days (according to the manufacturer’s instructions, it is recommended to do it once a week). Cleaning the device is simple; it is disassembled into parts, then filled with a special solution (or citric acid solution) and left for several hours. After the specified time, all parts are thoroughly washed under running water; you can use a special brush for washing.

It is in the difficulties of caring for the device that its disadvantage lies, since some elements of the device (especially the drum) have a complex configuration and are not easy to first disassemble and then reassemble. What other disadvantages of climate control technology are there?

  1. Maintenance of the device is expensive. If its design provides for the presence of filters, they have to be changed periodically by purchasing new ones.
  2. The device has large dimensions, which creates inconvenience in a small apartment.
  3. High market value.

If the sink is not used for a long time, you should not leave it with a full tank of water, especially not use the device immediately upon arrival. It is necessary to free it from liquid and dry the parts.

Reviews

Galina, 30 years old: “Suffering from allergies and constantly feeling dry nose, I decided to buy an air washer, as it not only moisturizes, but also cleanses it of dust. Overall the impressions are positive, the only thing is that there is a lot of hassle with cleaning, which needs to be done twice a week. When I saw how much dirt had accumulated in the tray of the appliance over three days, I was once again convinced of the dusty air I had been breathing until then and that I couldn’t do without a sink.”

Olga, 45 years old: “When the child was born, on the advice of the pediatrician, I decided to buy a humidifier, but a friend persuaded me to buy a 2 in 1 and buy an air washer. My family and I live in an industrial, polluted city, so I took the advice and don’t regret it. Even though it’s hot summer or cold winter outside, the air at home is always clean and humid, thanks to which you can breathe easily and freely. Unlike other children, my son actually suffers less from colds, and we have not encountered skin irritations that are common in infancy.”

Inga, 33 years old: “Having a large family and a cat whose fur constantly collects on the floor and furniture, we were faced with the need to purchase an air washer. This pleasure is not cheap, but it is better to buy this device, since we would spend much more on the treatment of allergies and ARVI. There are many advantages from purchasing a device, firstly, the house is comfortable, a microclimate is created in which it is easy for you to breathe, work and sleep. Secondly, there is less cleaning in the house, since a large amount of dust and wool is absorbed by the device. Thirdly, the number of colds, which our children had quite often, is decreasing.”
