The sizes of the structures are different, they need to fit the allocated space. It should be enough to still be able to replace cartridges. Some modern filter installations require hinged mounting of modules, which simplifies the process of changing them. All water purifiers, even those with flasks filled with water, are quite weighty. It is necessary to think in advance about the issue of a reliable basis for hanging or floor installation. The mounted filter should not interfere with closing the cabinet door under the sink. It is also necessary to provide access to plumbing communications.

Lifetime before replacing the filter element

This is an important point to consider before purchasing, since the frequency of replacing filtration elements affects the family budget. Each cartridge has its own capabilities, which are indicated in the accompanying documentation. Typically, the resource is measured by the total volume of water passed through the replacement element, for example, 3000 liters (3 m³). Considering the average daily consumption rate in a family, about 3-4 liters per person, one can estimate that for a family of 3 people with a consumption of 15 liters per day, such a cartridge will be enough for 167 days.

In addition to the volume of water, the resource is also expressed in time terms. Let's say it is indicated that the cartridge is designed for 4000 liters, but not more than six months of operation. Therefore, even if much less water than specified was passed through it, it must be replaced after 6 months. Different modules of the same water treatment complex may have their own, irradiated parameters of the intended operational resource. In this case, the change will have to be carried out in stages, as the term is developed or expires.

Some cartridges, for example, are ion exchange, they can be regenerated. This point is indicated in the documentation for them. The resource of the module may decrease if the water supplied is too contaminated. When changes in the taste and smell of the purified liquid become noticeable, this indicates the need to replace the elements. The reverse osmosis cartridge membrane also has its own resource. Typically, the service life varies in years. It is important to monitor the condition of the modules and the timeliness of their replacement. Some manufacturers remind their customers of this via SMS or email notification. If you use an expired cartridge, the water will not be suitable for drinking. Its quality is comparable to running liquid.
