New Year is one of the most favorite holidays not only for children, but also for adults. They begin to prepare for it several days, and sometimes weeks, by decorating a house, apartment, or office.

Windows are one of the places that should not be forgotten when decorating a room. Moreover, there are many different ways to decorate them, transforming your home for the holiday.
Openwork patterns
The simplest and most budget-friendly decorations for window glass are paper snowflakes, or, as they are popularly called, vytynanki. To make them, all you need is white paper and nail scissors. If you don’t have enough imagination to come up with your own design, you can use numerous patterns of openwork snowflakes from the Internet.
Next to the snowflakes you can place figures of Father Frost, the Snow Maiden, snowmen, various fairy-tale characters, as well as the symbol of the year 2020 - the White Metal Rat.
You can draw the template that will serve as the basis for the paper figures yourself or download it from the Internet and print it out. If you don’t have a printer, then enlarge the stencil on the screen to the desired size and transfer it to tracing paper attached to the screen.
To make paper decorations you will need:
- nail scissors;
- sharp stationery knife;
- scotch;
- wooden, plastic or silicone board for crafts;
- paper stencil.
The template is fixed with tape on the board. This will help prevent the sheet from slipping.Using a stationery knife, they begin to cut out the figure along the drawn outline, starting with smaller parts and gradually moving to larger ones. The outer outlines are cut out last.
When all the figures are ready, you can stick them on the window glass. To do this you will need a concentrated soap solution and a sponge or brush. Having coated the protuberance with the solution, glue it to the window glass.
Volumetric decorations
Original and durable products for decorating windows are made from ordinary PVA glue. Unlike disposable stickers, decorations made from glue can be used next year.
In addition to glue and paper stencils, you need to prepare a document file with a matte surface, a regular brush and colored glitter. It is advisable to purchase glue in a bottle equipped with a dispenser. The day before work begins, the glue is placed in the refrigerator to give it a thicker consistency.
The production of volumetric figures is carried out in the following order:
- The template is placed inside the file.
- Squeezing out a thick layer of glue from the tube, trace the contours of the stencil with it.
- Sprinkle glitter on top of the adhesive mass.
- The file with the pattern is placed near heating devices so that the glue dries faster.
- Use a match to check the degree of hardening of the glue.
- The finished drawing is separated from the file with a toothpick or a stationery knife, pulling it out.
- After wetting the back side of the image with water, the design is glued to the window glass.
In this way, you can make not only snowflakes, but also three-dimensional figures of Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and houses.After the holidays, the pictures can be easily removed from the window, and PVA glue helps preserve the decoration for a long time.
Decorating with garlands
You can decorate the window with a regular LED garland. The garland cord can be bent into a herringbone shape by securing it at the bends with tape. But colored light bulbs only look colorful after dark.
In daylight, the electric garland is not so expressive. To make the window opening pleasing to the eye throughout the day, you can make bright colored garlands with your own hands.
The elements of the garland can be very diverse: balls, stars, cotton balls, spruce branches, cones, animal figures. Some of the openwork paper snowflakes can be strung on a thread, alternating them with cotton balls. Before starting to work with cotton wool, your hands are moistened with water to make it easier to roll the ball.
You can quickly and easily build a colored accordion garland. Even a child can do it. To do this, sheets of two colors are formed, adhering to a certain pattern:
- Cut strips of equal width.
- Two paper strips of different colors are glued to each other perpendicularly, in the shape of the letter “L”.
- The strips are alternately folded overlapping each other.
When there are a few centimeters left to the edge of each strip, glue the next strip of the corresponding color and continue working according to the same pattern. Loops made of strong thread are glued to both ends of the garland, from which the ribbon is hung.
This way you can make several multi-colored garlands of different lengths and widths.
Window painting
Using regular toothpaste, you can create New Year's pictures on window glass.For those who know how to draw, it will be enough to just dilute the paste with water in a ratio of 2:1 and apply it to the glass with a brush.
Those who lack artistic talent will be helped out by special stencils cut out of paper.
In addition to the paper template and paste you will need:
- old toothbrush;
- foam sponge;
- bowl of water.
The paper stencil is moistened with water and glued to the glass. Dip the toothbrush into the paste diluted in water. Then use your fingers to spray the white mixture along the outline of the stencil.
You can also use a piece of foam rubber. The sponge is soaked in the paste and lightly pressed against the glass around the template. After the mixture has dried, the stencil is removed.
The benefit of toothpaste is that it can be easily removed from the window after the holidays are over. Just wipe the glass with a wet cloth.
To create colored drawings on windows, gouache and acrylic paints are used. The paint must be thick so as not to flow beyond the contours of the drawing.
Coniferous compositions
It is impossible to imagine the New Year's holiday without the aroma of pine needles. Small green wreaths hung on the windows will become an original decoration.
To create a coniferous composition you will need:
- pine needles;
- thin and thick wire;
- satin ribbons;
- heat gun.
New Year's accessories such as balls, beads, and cones will also come in handy.
The technology for making wreaths is as follows:
- Two pieces of thick wire are bent into rings of different diameters.
- Both rings are rewound with thin wire, thus constructing the frame of the wreath.
- A long piece of satin ribbon is attached to the frame.
- Coniferous branches are fixed on the wreath, placing one on top of the other.
- Using a heat gun, additional decor is attached: cones, balls, beads.
- A bow from a piece of ribbon is tied to the top of the wreath.
Coniferous wreaths hung chaotically at different heights will look beautiful. Some of the wreaths can be placed on the windowsill by placing thick candles inside.
Rules for posting homemade crafts
The variety of stencils allows you to make many fairy-tale characters that need to be harmoniously placed on the window glass.
When decorating a window, several nuances should be taken into account:
- Large patterns, including animal figures, are placed on the bottom of the window glass.
- The left or right side of the middle of the window opening is intended for flying objects: sleighs with Santa Claus, reindeer carts. This arrangement maintains the feeling of flight.
- Small accessories (Christmas balls, snowflakes, angels) look more appropriate at the top of the window.
Don't forget about the window sill space. To do this, remove flower pots from the windowsill, clearing space for New Year's compositions.
You can decorate the windowsill with paper crafts, animal figurines, and small artificial Christmas trees. Coniferous branches entwined with an electric garland will beautifully decorate the window sill space.
The symbol of the coming 2020 is the White Metal Rat. The favorite colors of this animal are gold, silver, and blue. Using these shades when decorating will help attract good luck to your home. And fabulously decorated windows will create a unique New Year's atmosphere in the house.
