Frequent guests of all vegetable gardens are black ants. These tiny creatures bring chaos and destruction: they destroy crops and destroy trees. The appearance of ants is directly related to the habitat of aphids, as they feed on its sweet secretions. In addition, to provide themselves with food, ants protect aphids from insects. This promotes its reproduction in the garden.

Getting rid of ants is a difficult task that requires patience. They lay their eggs in tunnels deep in the ground. It may seem that the problem is solved, but after a while the splinters will hatch and multiply. And so it continues ad infinitum. To get rid of unwanted neighbors once and for all, you need to find a suitable method of dealing with them. This article contains the most reliable and proven methods of fighting ants.
Ammonia
It is commonly used as a nitrogen fertilizer, but is also an excellent insect control agent. For 10 liters of water, add 50 ml of ammonia and two full tablespoons of dishwashing detergent or liquid soap. The solution is watered over the area affected by insects. This procedure should be repeated 2-3 times.
Kerosene
A product that has earned the approval of many summer residents. One drawback is the smell. Therefore, it is not recommended to use in a greenhouse or near recreational areas. For this method you will need cotton cloth, kerosene and a plank. We dig up an anthill, put a cotton cloth on top, previously soaked in kerosene, and press it with a plank. The effect is visible the next day after use.
Boiling water
Effective and most profitable remedy. However, it should not be used near plants. We dig up the anthill, then pour boiling water over it. The result is visible immediately. Another method of using boiling water to fight ants: dig up the ground layer of the anthill and transfer it to a bucket, previously greased with oil. The oil is needed to prevent the ants from getting out of the bucket. Then we fill in the remaining underground layer of the anthill. The bucket with the top layer should be taken as far as possible from the summer cottage. This method is more gentle towards insects.
Boric acid
Using it, you can easily make a bait that will kill not only working ants, but also the queen. We dilute sweetened water in a container. Add a teaspoon of boric acid to a teaspoon of sugar. The ants themselves will carry the poison into the anthill, thereby infecting others.
Special products against ants
These include various dichlorvos, ointments and much more. One of the most reliable methods is products in tubes. They have different names. Can be purchased at hardware stores. Works exactly the same as a boric acid trap. It is necessary to lubricate the paths of movement of the ants; once they become infected, they will carry the poisonous substance into the anthill and infect the entire colony.
Strong odors
A mixture of wood ash and lime, cinnamon, garlic cloves. Wormwood, anise, mint, tansy - all of the above have a pungent odor that is hated by ants. Sprinkle the anthill with the chosen product and wait. The result is noticeable after several hours.
Vegetable oil solution
To prepare the solution you will need two glasses of vegetable oil per 10 liters of water, shampoo, and vinegar. Mix and pour into the hole made right in the middle of the anthill, cover with film for several days.
Soap solution
This solution will help remove aphids; later, due to lack of nutrition, the ants themselves will leave the garden. You need to dissolve 100 ml of liquid soap in 10 liters of water. Spraying should be done in the evening. The liquid will dry onto the plants into a thin film, cutting off oxygen to the aphids.
Plants that drive ants away from the site
Such plants include tomatoes, red hot peppers, and mustard. Anise, onion, garlic, daffodils, lavender. Melissa and conifers. These plants are unpleasant to ants.
Carbon sulfide
This method should be used in the evening, when the ants have gathered in the anthill. A furrow is made around the anthill, filled with carbon sulphide and set on fire. This method is the most dangerous, but no less reliable.
Of course, every summer resident has his own correct method. But the main thing is not to forget: you can win the fight against ants only by getting rid of the cause of their appearance - aphids. Even if there are no ants in the garden yet, planting plants with a pungent odor or treating the soil with special chemicals in the spring as a preventive measure will not hurt anyone.
