To regularly eat healthy raspberries, which are collected on your own plot, you need to take many points into account. An important condition is the correct choice of place for planting raspberries. It turns out that this is not difficult to do.
Wise choice of location
In order for the plant to produce a harvest every year, you need to choose the right site. The soil chosen is fertile, soft and loose. Raspberries will not grow in lowlands, ravines and holes. The shrub feels good in sunny places.
It is impossible for groundwater to be located high. The plant simply dies when there is flooding or stagnation of water. The roots begin to rot, the stems die.
On a note! The depth of groundwater is at least 1.5 m.
Nutrition and protection
For normal growth and fruiting, raspberry bushes need good nutrition. Ideally, the soil on the site will be fertile and soft. Choose loam with good drainage. The acidity level should be between 5.5–6 pH. When acidity is high, lime is used to reduce its level.
Plantings must be protected from wind, drafts, and low temperatures.
East or West
For raspberries, the best place is the western or eastern border. It will not be amiss if the berry garden is protected from the wind by some kind of building on the north side.
On the south side, the scorching sun will dry out the raspberries too much. The berry bush loves a lot of light and warmth, but at the same time, under scorching rays and lack of moisture, the bushes will not grow and will dry out.The berries will become smaller and lose their taste.
Lots of light
Raspberries grow and bear fruit well in sunny and well-lit areas. The duration of daylight at the planting site should be maximum.
Raspberries do not tolerate any shading. It is permissible to locate the object on the north side, so that it does not cast any shadow on the crop. Therefore, garden raspberries are often planted on the south side of the fence. The fence protects from cold winds, but does not interfere with growth. The distance between the fence and the berry garden is left at least 0.5 m.
Due to poor lighting, raspberry bushes are easily affected by diseases and pests. Such plants do not bear fruit very abundantly.
Good neighbors
To plant raspberries, you need to choose an open place without any neighbors. The berry garden is placed on the site in different ways:
- You can plant bushes along garden paths from the house to the gate. There is a lot of light here, making it easier to care for the plantings. When cleaning the paths, you will be able to throw snow onto the raspberry tree, which will help the crop survive the winter.
- Choose a separate bright area where you can plant seedlings in 2–4 rows.
You should not plant raspberries between trees. There will be a struggle between garden crops for light, nutrients and moisture, which will negatively affect yields.
On a note! When planted next to trees, care becomes more difficult. It is difficult to control pests, since different chemicals must be used for berry fields and trees.
To plant raspberries, it is important to choose the right site. But this is not the only condition that will ensure excellent fruiting and the desired harvest. It is necessary to provide the plant with timely watering and adequate feeding.
