Gardeners and vegetable gardeners, owners of private houses improve their plots with the help of garden tiles. But with the onset of spring, the weed seeds germinate, and the root system breaks the masonry on the paths.
Summer residents struggle with weeds throughout the planting season. Mostly they do it manually, and they understand that the effort is wasted. In the eradication of weeds on paths, effective and proven means are needed.
Boiling water
In the time of our great-grandmothers, there were no jars of herbicides. They are still inaccessible to many due to the high price - 400–2000 rubles. for 100–500 ml. Grandmothers taught their grandchildren to treat garden paths with regular boiling water.
The herb needs to be watered with hot water 2-3 times, and the effect will not be long in coming. After a couple of days, the grass will become yellow and loose, and thanks to a broom, it will easily separate from the tiles.
This method is environmentally friendly and costs nothing; it has been tested in practice by many generations of gardeners.
Salty water
A simple and inexpensive way to control weeds. For 5 liters of warm water there is 2 kg of table salt. The solution turns out to be very concentrated; a small part of the crystals will settle to the bottom of the bottle.
Salt water is poured into a sprayer without sediment, then the weeds are generously sprayed with this concentrate.
It is necessary to spray low, directly on the grass, to protect crops from salt. And within a day (if there is no rain!) the weed will dry out and die.
And with the help of a hard broom you can sweep away the remaining grass from garden paths in 10 minutes.
Soda
Another cheap remedy that can easily deal with green invaders.
For 1 liter of warm water use 5 tablespoons of soda. The solution must be mixed thoroughly and poured into a watering can.
A liter of cloudy concentrate is enough for 3 joints between large tiles. Therefore, for a large area the proportions need to be increased several times. And 3-4 days after such treatment, the grass will wither, especially quickly in those places where sediment has fallen.
The result of the experiment showed that you can sprinkle baking soda directly onto the joints between the tiles, and then pour water on them. The effect will be the same, and the weeds will disappear from the paths for a while.
Vinegar with salt and detergent
This is the third inexpensive and effective method. A vigorous mixture is prepared in the following proportions: for 5 liters of warm water - 180 ml of 70% acetic acid, 200 g of salt and 100 g of dishwashing liquid. The soapy solution will help the solution stick to the leaves, and the hot ingredients will kill the root system.
Using a watering can or sprayer, the solution is sprayed onto the weeds. It is better to do this in the evening so as not to breathe in vinegar fumes.
After just 12 hours, the product gives a powerful effect. The grass dies and is easily separated from the tiles. A broom will help you effortlessly sweep away all the pests from your garden paths.
Water pressure and sand
An easy, environmentally friendly method, but to implement it you need a hose with good water pressure or a mini-wash, and you will need sand to grout the joints.
Here is the result of water pressure treatment. Grass is easily washed away from garden paths.
And to consolidate the result, it is advisable to fill the seams with sand.
Using a broom, spread the sand over the entire surface of the path, lightly compacting the joints. The result is a clean, well-groomed path, protected from weeds for a long time.
Summer residents also recommend more expensive drastic remedies. Those who are against herbicides are considering methods of covering paths with geofiber. The market offers a huge selection of garden textiles that perfectly protect against weeds. And on top of strips of impenetrable fabric you can pour gravel, crushed stone, crushed bark or decorative mulch.
