As soon as the sun begins to warm up in spring, gardening work can begin, even if the snow has not yet melted everywhere. You can name 8 urgent things that need to be done before the main work on the site in early spring.
House and yard cleaning
Over the winter, both the house itself and the site became littered, so the new season needs to start with general cleaning. Country mattresses, pillows, blankets, blankets - these need to be taken outside, warmed up in the sun, dried in the first warm breeze. Then there will be no mold, dampness, mildew or even insects in the house.
Don't forget about the site. As soon as the snow melts, you need to immediately clear the area of leaves, dry grass and household debris. Even if the cleaning was carried out in the fall, during the winter a lot of garbage was blown by the wind, which needs to be removed.
Pruning trees and bushes
Before abundant sap flow begins, you need to prune bushes and trees. Broken, weakened branches, branches that grow inside the bush, or whose crowns interfere with other branches are cut out from plants.
Pruning should be done with a sharp tool, without damaging or injuring healthy branches. Large stumps, as well as cracks on the trunks, need to be covered with garden varnish. After this, put hunting belts on the trunks and “welcome” uninvited guests.
Bring roses out of winter
Gardeners who grow roses know that wintering is not as bad for these plants as ineptly bringing roses out of hibernation. Very often the spring sun begins to warm the branches of roses, and the buds quickly begin to swell on the branches. This is very bad. The sun warms only the branches, the buds swell, and the roots themselves are still in the icy ground, which has not thawed. And the plant dies. This phenomenon is called a biological burn.
To prevent this from happening, you need to remove the soil from the tree trunks of the rose bushes as soon as possible (as soon as the ground thaws) and cover all the bushes with covering material. This will allow the ground to gradually thaw, and the branches will not be too hot from the sun, and the buds will swell only when all the roots have thawed and can feed the plant.
Greenhouse preparation
The greenhouses have become dusty over the winter, which means the sun will have difficulty passing through them. They need to be washed inside and out, sprayed with an anti-insect preparation, and the soil in the greenhouse needs to be dug up. Keep in mind that the soil has been used, so you can renew the top layer, and if this is not possible, then add fertilizer.
Preparing the beds
At the same time, it is already possible to prepare the beds for new crops. Particular attention should be paid to “warm” beds. They can already be filled with branches, old leaves, and compost. Then you should cover everything with black film and leave to warm up. Experienced gardeners believe that such a “warm” bed is ready for planting when mushrooms – toadstools – begin to grow under the film. This means that the crops will no longer burn. Regular beds should be dug up and fertilized.
Tree grafting
Trees should also be grafted before sap flows through the trunk and branches. Therefore, you should hurry.
Compost
After the general cleaning of the entire area is completed, heaps of old leaves, trimmed branches from bushes, and dry grass will remain in the yard. And all these are invaluable components for the compost heap. The only thing you should pay attention to is that you cannot put branches and leaves of diseased plants into compost.
First landings
As soon as the soil thaws to the required depth, you need to plant seedlings of bushes and trees. And if the soil has warmed up by more than 5 degrees, then you can start sowing. Gardeners can safely plant:

- legumes;
- parsley;
- parsnip;
- dill;
- carrot;
- garlic;
- celery;
- many flower crops.
