Every owner of a personal plot knows that autumn pruning is a significant event. Not only the beauty of the plant depends on it, but also its health and the quality of the harvest.
Fruit trees
Pruning fruit trees in the fall is of a sanitary nature. Dry, diseased branches, excess shoots inside the crown and growth near the trunk are removed from trees.
Plum processing is carried out at the end of September-October. By this time, the plant had dropped its leaves and entered the dormant stage. The gardener is recommended to carry out only sanitary pruning of the tree; it is advisable to postpone all other manipulations to the spring.
Autumn pruning of an apple tree depends on the age of the plant. In young trees, the grown branches are shortened by ¼ of the length. If the tree has reached the age of 5–6 years, then the branches are cut by 1/3 and a crown is formed.
But it is recommended to postpone the processing of pears, apricots, cherries and cherries to early autumn.
Fruit and berry bushes
Fruit and berry bushes also need autumn treatment. A timely procedure improves the condition of the bushes, increases the duration of fruiting and the quality of the harvest.
Branches older than two years, damaged, diseased and excess shoots are removed from raspberries. There should be no more than 6 branches left on the bush. With the arrival of autumn, varieties of remontant raspberries are cut completely at the root.
Currant pruning is carried out after the leaves fall.A blackcurrant bush is formed from 5–8 shoots, which are shortened by 2 pairs of buds. But for red and white varieties it is enough to leave 2-3 young branches.
Blackberries, gooseberries, blueberries and rose hips are also manipulated.
Flowers
Autumn pruning rejuvenates perennial flowers, strengthens their roots, improves nutrient transport and helps produce bright and rich blooms in the new season.
Roses must be pruned. The gardener needs to cut off all flowering stems, weak, dead, damaged and old shoots. The sections should be clear, oblique and at a height of 5–7 mm from the nearest bud.
Autumn pruning of hydrangeas is carried out after the foliage has completely fallen off. First of all, faded branches are cut from the plant, then dried, damaged and diseased shoots. Then they begin to rejuvenate the hydrangea. To do this, branches that are older than 4–5 years are completely removed from the plant. Finally, all shoots are shortened to 2–5 pairs of buds. It should be remembered that not all varieties of hydrangea can be pruned in the fall. Large-leaved and paniculate varieties are subjected to the procedure.
The main treatment of clematis is also carried out in the autumn. Dead and old shoots are removed from the plant, and the rest are shortened by half.
Conifers
If conifers grow on a personal plot, then autumn pruning should be carried out only for sanitary purposes. Dead and damaged branches, as well as diseased shoots, are removed from plants.
For evergreens with early growing season, it is recommended to carry out a full pruning in November.
Autumn pruning of trees and shrubs will not be difficult if the procedure is approached correctly and carried out at the right time. I like
