In order to get a rich harvest of cabbage, consisting of large, strong heads of cabbage, it is necessary to feed this crop. The most convenient and best option is to pour fertilizer into the hole when planting seedlings in open ground.
It is worth understanding what most favorably affects the quality of the harvest of an unpretentious vegetable - cabbage.
What soil is suitable for cabbage
This crop prefers loamy soil that retains moisture well. Does not tolerate clayey and acidic soil well. It is believed that cabbage is a very unpretentious, hardy and easy-to-care crop that can comfortably survive even possible frosts. When planting seedlings, it is worth adding fertilizers to the soil, thereby achieving the most favorable growth of cabbage, which is a guarantee of a successful harvest.
Definitely, before moving plants into the ground, it is necessary to protect them from the possible presence of pests and pathogenic bacteria remaining in the soil from last year. For this purpose, fungicides and insecticides are applied:
- Zemlin.
- Fungistop.
- Force.
In order to reduce the acidity of the soil, add to it:
- Lime.
- Chalk.
- Dolomite flour.
- Wood ash.
The most nutritious mixtures for laying in the hole
There are various options for adding compounds enriched with beneficial microelements into the soil before planting cabbage seedlings.
- One of the most commonly used fertilizers is rotted manure or compost. Pour into the hole mixed with soil at the rate of 1 cup per 1 plant.
- Humates, of which there are quite a lot on the market now, are well suited for adding to the hole. The required amount is calculated according to the instructions.
- It is good to add nitroammophoska at the rate of ½ teaspoon per 1 hole.
- An excellent way to fertilize and deoxidize the soil is a mixture of 1 cup of manure and 2 cups of wood ash.
Attention! Manure must be rotted, fresh can burn the root system.
- Mix 30 g of wood ash with 150 g of urea and 150 g of superphosphate. You can add humus. Combine all this with the soil and only then add to the hole.
Be careful! There must be a layer of soil between the roots of the plant and the layer of fertilizer, otherwise the root system may suffer and the plant will die.
- You can add chicken manure to the hole, infused in water for 2-3 days. It has a very beneficial effect on the formation of strong and juicy heads of cabbage. Before planting, add 0.5 liters of manure to the hole, sprinkle with a layer of soil and plant the seedlings.
- Add 0.5 liters of sour jam to a bucket of water, pressed yeast in the amount of 300 grams. Leave to infuse for two weeks in a dark place. Such a nutrient mixture can be added to the hole when planting, water the plants or spray them.
- It is good to fertilize the soil before planting with crushed eggshells. In addition to calcium, it contains many useful microelements.
When adding nutrient mixtures to the soil when planting cabbage in the ground, you must remember that you should do this carefully; an excess of microelements can be detrimental to weak plants. Moreover, transferring seedlings to open ground is always a big stress for crops.
