Mole cricket is a common disease in the garden. The appearance of this pest means the inevitable occurrence of problems with the crop. Therefore, summer residents are trying to immediately take measures to eliminate it.
The insect is a small beetle measuring 2-3 cm. They are found up to 5 cm.
The appearance of the mole cricket is peculiar. For many who have never encountered this insect before, it even has a terrifying effect.
This insect lives in soils rich in humus and generously fertilized with manure. Therefore, the epicenter of the appearance of these pests is most often heaps of manure or areas near them.
Mole crickets are widespread in warm regions where spring is accompanied by a mild climate. They do not like cold, high soil humidity and variable temperatures, because this makes them sick and die.
However, nature does not always come to the rescue. Many summer residents have to fight the scourge on their own. Experts identify the following methods to counter mole crickets:
- At the stage of importing manure heaps, it is necessary to do a number of manipulations - make a fence in the form of high boxes and eliminate all the cracks. If the problem has already caught up, then you can use this very fertilizer and catch them. We put a pile of manure, wait a few days, and then manually exterminate the incoming insects.
- Using onions. An infusion is made from the husk - placed in clean water for 5-6 days.No more than 1 kg of onion waste per bucket will be enough. After this, the resulting infusion must be diluted. Proportions 1:5. Then water with this solution once a week. After 3-4 weeks, the mole cricket will leave your garden.
- Use of kerosene. Here you need to be careful not to get consequences. Carefully cultivate the soil in the proportion of 60 ml per 1 kg of sand per square meter. It would be rational to use this method in greenhouses and other small areas.
- A mixture of sunflower oil and water. The resulting solution must be filled with all insect burrows.
- Fishing for beer. If you leave an unclosed bottle of beer in the garden, it will attract the attention of mole crickets.
- Spread of needles in the area. It is necessary to chop the needles and carefully place them on the beds. The pest cannot tolerate such an aroma.
- There is a method implemented by scaring away with the smell of fish. But here the summer resident must decide whether he is ready to experience this bouquet himself.
- Use of eggshells. It needs to be crushed and buried in the soil in the garden. The mole cricket eats the mush and dies.
- Installing a fence at each bed. The main thing is 4-5 cm above the ground.
- Exposure to cold. It is recommended to use this method in the fall. Holes up to 60 cm deep are dug and manure is placed in them. Mole crickets gather in them for the winter. During the first frost, it is necessary to dig up these holes and thereby kill the pest with cold.
- Use of chemicals. There are a large number of them in any specialized store.
