But only on condition that this vegetable is grown using the seedling method and according to all the rules. To apply the methods, you do not need to study scientific treatises on cabbage - it is enough to know a few simple tips.
Choosing the optimal timing
It is extremely important to follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the planting material - often individual varieties, especially zoned ones, should be planted at times that differ significantly from the average recommendations.
In the south of Russia, cabbage seedlings are sown starting from February 10, in Siberia, especially if the spring is cold, they can do this only after May 20.
The earliest to start growing is Chinese cabbage, followed by kohlrabi and Savoy cabbage, Brussels sprouts, Romanesco, broccoli and red cabbage, white cabbage and cauliflower, kale, Chinese cabbage.
Sometimes gardeners are guided by the lunar calendar. Its good and bad days "float" every year, but invariably, season after season, they are considered favorable for sowing cabbage seedlings:
- 4, 7, 25, 28 February;
- 6, 11-13, 18, 24-27 March;
- 5, 10-14, 21-23, 25 April; 1–3, 8, 15–19 May.

And absolutely unfavorable, regardless of the position of the Moon, are February 1, March 2, 10 and 14, April 8–9, 20 and May 4.
It is also important to note that it is better to underexpose cabbage seedlings at home than to overexpose them. In the latter case, deprived of space for the development of the root system, it begins to fade after planting in the beds.
