Holofiber is a modern material for insulating outerwear and bed linen. It consists of fibers that look like springs, glued together not with glue, but with high temperature. There are probably products with this filling in every home, because it is very convenient. And sooner or later, a responsible housewife is overtaken by questions: is it possible to wash it and how to do it correctly?
Advantages and disadvantages
This material has several advantages over the usual down, feathers and padding polyester:
- Thanks to its springy texture, it holds its shape well.
- The air between the fibers has good thermal insulation properties, so clothing with holofiber is preferable in cold weather.
- This synthetic material is suitable for allergy sufferers and asthmatics because it is hypoallergenic.
- There are no mites in holofiber, because there is nothing for them to feed on in artificial material.
- Glued fibers do not allow or absorb moisture.
But it has few disadvantages:
- A relative disadvantage is that this insulation is quite hot and is not suitable for everyone.
- Frequent washing with the wrong cycle means that the product may lose its shape and properties.
For these reasons, holofiber is very easy to care for. However, in order to extend the life of the product, you still need to know a few rules.
General rules
- If it is heavily soiled, the holofiber should be soaked and allowed to rest. This will not harm the filler in any way. The product can even be rubbed with a brush.
- If you find a stain on your favorite jacket, you can safely fill it with stain remover and give it time to remove. The filler will not be harmed by this.

- Holofiber can be wrung out even in a washing machine at 1000 rpm. You can dry clothes with this filler without pre-squeezing, water is not absorbed into this material, and it dries extremely quickly.
- Sometimes it becomes necessary to iron a thing with this artificial filler. This can be done at an iron temperature of no more than 100 degrees, but it is better to use a steamer or an iron with a steam generator function.
- To ensure that the filler does not roll off during washing, you can use special polyvinyl chloride balls. They will not only prevent the holofiber from becoming crumpled, but will also increase the quality of washing, while reducing its duration.
What determines the washing method?
The upper fabric does not always allow you to worry-free wash a product with artificial filling. Therefore, it is best to take into account the material when washing and rely on the label with the manufacturer’s information.
The raincoat can be washed in a machine at a temperature not exceeding 45 degrees. But it’s better to turn off the spin function so as not to deform the fabric.
The membrane is considered a capricious material, so it is better to clean it in the delicate wash mode and using special detergents for the membrane.As a last resort, you should wash it with any shampoo, but never with powder, which can clog into the pores of the fabric and negate all its functions.
Polyester is less capricious, but also requires special treatment. It can be washed at a temperature not exceeding 40 degrees and cannot be ironed.
Bolon is not washed or dried in a washing machine because creases easily appear on this fabric. Clothes made from this material must first be soaked in detergent and then carefully rinsed in the shower so that the powder or gel does not leave streaks on the fabric. You can’t squeeze it out, you need to let the water drain. With such a gentle wash, neither the bologna on the outside nor the holofiber inside the jacket will be harmed in any way.
What and how to wash bedding
Bedding manufacturers unanimously insist that blankets and pillows filled with holofiber can be washed in a washing machine. However, experienced housewives claim that this is just a marketing ploy and when washing bed linen you will definitely have to work hard on your own. Typically, these items are wet cleaned no more than once a year. To avoid having to go to the store for a new blanket after cleaning, it is important to know a few rules.
- Pillows and blankets filled with holofiber are first soaked for half an hour in lukewarm water.
- It is better to give preference to liquid detergents because, unlike powder, they do not get stuck in the structure of the fabric and are easily washed out of it. If buying a special shampoo for washing seems wasteful, then even the most ordinary one for the head will do.
- When washing, it is better not to rub the pillow, but to lightly press and straighten it.
- It is very important to rinse the product thoroughly.
- It makes sense to plan washing clothes with holofiber for the summer in order to dry the item well in the wind and sun. First, the pillows are dried in a basin to drain most of the water, and then placed in an open space until completely dry. During the drying process, you need to shake the pillow several times so that the filling dries faster and does not cake.
- If, despite all the advice, you cannot wash bedding by hand, then you can rely on a machine. The main thing is not to forget to select the delicate wash mode.
Washing cannot be dry cleaned

In this form, this filler can be easily washed in a washing machine at any temperature. According to its characteristics, it can even withstand boiling, but there is no need for this - synthetics do not harbor any foreign residents in the form of ticks and other insects.
If the holofiber in your favorite jacket or comfortable pillow turns out to be of low quality and still becomes matted, it can be resuscitated. To do this, take a regular animal hair comb and carefully comb the fibers. It will be difficult to return to its former fluffiness, but you won’t have to immediately throw away your favorite item.
How to extend the life of a product?
