Once a month for groceries

Have you ever thought that rarely going to the store for groceries can make your life much easier and save money? This is true. Observing other families in the supermarket, one can come to the conclusion that this approach to nutrition is the best and easiest, especially for housewives with children. Agree that you no longer have to go to the store every day and think about what to buy today and cook... And most importantly, you don’t have to juggle heavy bags on the way home!

Preparing a list

To implement this approach, it’s a good idea to make several lists, the first of which should include your family’s most popular favorite dishes. In the list, indicate how many times they can be prepared during the month. The second list will contain information about the products that need to be purchased, their quantity, and the purchase amount.

What grocery purchases should you make monthly? Probably those that consist of basic and long-lasting products. Otherwise, you will not be able to save your family budget. Here is an approximate list of the main register of products for purchase:

  • pasta,
  • Wheat flour,
  • granulated sugar,
  • butter,
  • vegetable oil,
  • legumes,
  • table vinegar,
  • oat groats,
  • rice cereal,
  • buckwheat grain,
  • frozen vegetables,
  • canned food,
  • sauce and mayonnaise,
  • tomato paste,
  • meat for freezing,
  • bulb onions,
  • carrot,
  • cabbage,
  • potato,
  • apples,
  • tea,
  • cocoa,
  • coffee/chicory,
  • drinking water,
  • trash bags,
  • toilet paper,
  • air freshener,
  • soap,
  • body gel,
  • shampoo and hair balm,
  • toothpaste,
  • washing powder,
  • cotton pads and cotton swabs,
  • wet wipes.

This purchasing method is not suitable for you and your family if:

  • you have little space in your refrigerator and freezer or no pantry,
  • you are new to procurement,
  • You (and your family members) do not know how to limit yourself to unhealthy foods.

What should you do before bulk purchasing?

  1. Write down your family's favorite products and calculate their consumption for the month. For example, your daughter's favorite food is bananas. They are also useful and loved by other family members. If a family of three people, then the consumption of bananas per week is approximately 6 pieces, respectively, per month - 24 pieces (6 pieces * 4 weeks).
  2. Compare prices in stores where you plan to purchase products. Choose the store that is most profitable for you based on the main shopping categories.
  3. Go to the wholesale center and decide which products you will purchase there.
  4. Check actual product inventories.
  5. Prepare the refrigerator for filling with food (clean up and throw out everything unnecessary and spoiled).
  6. Don’t forget about perishable products and attach a list of them to the main list.

Every time before going to the supermarket, it is not necessary to prepare a long list of everything you are going to buy for the month. It is enough that you keep a list of healthy and tasty dishes in your head, and know how many days a particular product from the list of basic products will last for your family. A nice addition to this will be an understanding of how you can save your grocery budget.
