Cabbage is a favorite treat for many insects. Slugs and caterpillars can destroy an entire head of cabbage in a few days. To combat garden pests, you can use purchased products, but for those who want to get a safe harvest, many folk methods have been invented that are not inferior in their effectiveness to expensive professional products.
Soda
This product is inexpensive and does not require special skills to prepare. For 5 liters of warm water you need to take 100 g of baking soda. Dissolve the powder in the liquid and mix thoroughly. Make sure that there is no soda residue left at the bottom of the container. After preparation, the solution must be used immediately. The resulting liquid is used to treat cabbage heads.
Baking soda can also be used in dry form. You need to mix 100 g of baking soda and 100 g of any flour. Treat the plant bushes with the resulting mixture. The powder is safe for people and pets, but is lethal to caterpillars.
Tomato tops
For this tool you will need:
- 1 kg of dried tomato leaves or 2 kg of fresh herbs;
- 5 liters of water.
Fill the tops with water, place the container on the burner, and after the liquid boils, simmer over low heat for 40 minutes. Use for spraying heads of cabbage without diluting. In a similar way, an infusion of wormwood is prepared, the smell of which is also destructive to garden pests.
Ammonia
Strong odors repel caterpillars from cabbage, forcing them to look for a more pleasant-smelling treat. To prepare the infusion, you will need ammonia. The product is diluted in a ratio of 1 to 5 with water and sprayed on plants affected by pests. This method will also be effective as a preventative measure. But remember that frequent use of alcohol can negatively affect plants by drying out the leaves.
Ash and laundry soap
For the infusion, you will need:
- 5 liters of water;
- 200 g of ash;
- 150 g of laundry soap.
Grate the soap, dissolve in warm liquid, mix thoroughly. Pour ash into the resulting solution. After mixing all the ingredients, let the liquid sit for 12-24 hours. Then you can spray the cabbage.
Vinegar
This remedy is recognized as the most effective in the fight against caterpillars. Mix 2.5 tbsp. of essence in 5 liters of water. The cabbage bushes are treated with the liquid from a watering can.
