For summer residents, dandelion is not a sunny spring flower at all, but a harmful weed that is difficult to get rid of. It quickly takes root, gradually capturing large areas of land. To avoid this, you should figure out how to permanently eliminate this plant on the site without the use of herbicides and other chemicals.
Mechanical method
Mechanical methods of getting rid of pest flowers include the labor of the summer resident. Namely:
- digging;
- mowing;
- using special devices, for example, root removers.
The easiest way to get rid of dandelions is to dig them up by the roots. A regular shovel is used for this purpose. The downside of this method is that it can only be used in areas where there are no other plantings in the immediate vicinity of the pest flower.
Mowing is a simple but labor-intensive process for getting rid of dandelions. It must be used repeatedly, preventing the weed's root system from developing and strengthening. The most effective use of this method is on young shoots when they are just emerging. You cannot allow white caps to appear on flowers, in which easily spread plant seeds are formed.
If dandelions have grown close to cultivated plants, for example, in a flower bed, then it is best to use a root remover.In this case, it will be possible to act specifically on the weed, which will help avoid damage to other plants. The pointed edge of the tool is placed in the ground near the dandelion root. They cut off the soil around the rhizome, thereby removing the flower along with its underground part.
Salt and vinegar are simple helpers
Salt is the simplest folk remedy that is used to control weeds, including dandelions. A handful of salt is poured onto the flower sprout, thereby causing the gradual death and death of the above-ground and underground parts of the plant.
Vinegar is an effective means of killing plant pests. It's very easy to use. Concentrated vinegar is poured into a spray bottle and the weed is completely sprayed, starting from the base and ending with the flower cap. With this method, it may be necessary to carry out several treatments until the plant dies completely. The disadvantage of this method is the likelihood of acidification of the treated soil.
Deprivation of light
To easily and quickly get rid of flowers that have taken over an area, you can simply deprive the plants of sunlight. To do this, the weeds are covered with material that does not allow sunlight to pass through. It can be a sheet of iron, thick cellophane or ordinary cardboard. Deprived of light and a food source, dandelions die in just a few days.
Exposure to high temperature
The use of boiling water in the battle with dandelions weakens the root system of the plant and leads to their gradual death. Boiling water is poured under the root of the weed, but at least 4-5 times a day.
In addition to boiling water, you can use a gas burner on the flowers, spreading the flame of the device onto the plant. This way, the weed is burned out.
As it turns out, fighting pest flowers in the garden is not so difficult. The main thing is to do everything in a timely manner and not allow dandelions to spread throughout the dacha area.
