And the stumps will bloom - it’s not difficult to make a flowerbed from an old stump

Some garden plots are so charming that passersby involuntarily stop to look at the details of the original design. But sometimes all you need to decorate your dacha well is free time and a little imagination. An old stump in a garden plot can be a hindrance in transforming the landscape, or in the skillful hands of the owner it can become a blooming, fragrant flowerbed.

The stump for a flower bed should ideally not be too old or, conversely, freshly cut. In the first case, it will quickly fall apart, in the second it will need time to dry, otherwise difficulties will arise with subsequent processing. You should not arrange a flower garden on logs with fungus, ants and bark beetles - they pose a threat to the entire garden. The rest of the dry hemp of any shape and size is perfect for implementing the plan.

Preparation

On the cut of the stump, you need to draw a circle, 5–8 cm away from the edge of the log. Next, you should make a notch 10–20 cm deep using one of the following methods:

  • carefully walk along the edges with a hammer and chisel, and make a depression in the middle with an ax or chainsaw;
  • Drill several holes with a drill and pour saltpeter into it, wait a few weeks and uproot the core;
  • pour kerosene into the holes drilled in the hemp, seal them, and after 2-3 weeks burn out the hole.

The last two methods are time-consuming and are used if the structure of the tree is very dense.

Drainage and soil

After the hole is ready, you need to take a drill and drill several holes at an angle from the bottom of the recess at an angle in the outside of the stump. This must be done so that after watering the water does not stagnate in the future flowerbed and so that air can flow to the roots of the plants.

Then the block is treated with an antiseptic and covered with paint or varnish.

The first layer of crushed stone and fine gravel is poured onto the bottom of the improvised flower bed, and the second layer is soil enriched with minerals. The stump is ready for transformation.

Flowerbed design

Annual flowers are more suitable for decorating a log. Ampelous plants look organic on the hemp: petunia, begonia, nasturtium, lobelia, morning glory, periwinkle. It is better to place representatives of the flora with erect stems in the center of the flowerbed, and climbing flowers along the edges.

Monochrome plants look beautiful and unusual: young or stone rose, fern, succulents, green or silver dichondra. You can design a flowerbed with different shades of the same color. “Wild Garden” will be well complemented by a stump with cornflowers, bluebells, pansies, and strawberries.

An old stump, entwined with flowers, into which the owners breathed a second life, will delight the household all summer.
