Nodding centipedes in the garden: how to prevent them from appearing and 5 ways to get rid of them when they are already there

The appearance of millipedes is a fairly common problem among summer residents. Compared to other pests, they stand out because they are slow and inconspicuous. Their favorite delicacies are manure and humus.

How to prevent them from appearing

Before you think about how to deal with existing bugs, it’s worth understanding what needs to be done to prevent them from appearing in the future.

First of all, you need to clear the area of any debris that may have accumulated. All bottles, caps, jars, boxes and other trash must be thrown away.

It is important to dig up and remove plant debris from the soil after harvesting. This must be done not only with cultivated plants, but also with weeds that litter the ground.

It is useful to lim the soil, and this will not only protect the soil from pests, but also improve the condition of the soil itself. A depth of 20 centimeters will be sufficient.

Green manure will also help on the site. You can use sunflower, white mustard, and yellow lupine. They, in addition to driving away the pest, will improve the quality of the soil.

Before purchasing organic fertilizers or planting materials, they should be carefully inspected for pests. It's worth buying quality products to avoid this. It is better not to use an unreliable product at all.

Ways to fight

There are two types of means to combat it - chemical and folk methods.

As it might seem at first glance, chemicals are a priority in this case, but this is not the case. Due to the chitinous shell of this centipede, which protects it, many remedies will be ineffective. The exception is larvae; specialized products work well on them. Therefore, we will consider only traditional methods. Namely the main ones - there are 5 of them:

  1. Insecticides.
  2. Mulching.
  3. Wet boards.
  4. Traps.
  5. Chloride salts.

Vegetable processing

A fairly popular method is to treat pieces of vegetables with insecticides and scatter them around the area. This method is only suitable for a small number of them.

Mulching the soil

These animals love berries, so it is wise to mulch the soil around these crop populations. This will save a considerable amount of berries.

Wet boards

Kivsyaki are very moisture-loving animals, you can play on this. Take a board, wet it well and place it on the ground. After a while they will gather there, then you can easily get rid of them.

Centipede traps

A variety of traps and baits have been invented for catching hawksbills. For example, you can dig a shallow hole and place a tin can there. The pests themselves will fall there.

Saline solutions

You can try treating the soil with a special solution of chloride salts. They will have an unfavorable effect on the organisms of the nomads.

Getting rid of these creatures is not difficult at all. It is enough to make a little effort, and they will stop causing inconvenience to the garden and all its inhabitants.
