Lazy compost - 4 ways to make it

Experienced gardeners know that good compost is the key to healthy seedlings and a rich harvest. And it’s easy to prepare from old tops, leaves or even paper.

In the garden

Making compost in the garden is a quick and easy way. After harvesting, the soil is dug up or loosened. The stems of harvested crops, unsuitable fruits, and fallen leaves are laid out one by one. The height of the compost should not be more than 30 cm. To quickly decompose, the layers are watered with a special agent or covered with a dark film. Once a month the fertilizer is loosened.

For composting in the garden, it is not recommended to use diseased or rotten fruits, tops from nightshade crops and weeds.

Chicken compost

Wood chips or chopped branches are placed at the bottom of the composter or pit. The lowest layer acts as drainage. Then dry leaves 20–30 cm thick are placed, lightly sprinkled with soil, moistened with water and a layer of chicken droppings is placed, the height of which is about 10–15 cm. Thus, foliage and droppings are alternated. The height of the compost should not exceed 1 meter. Once a week, the fertilizer is mixed to improve the flow of oxygen and rapid decomposition. To speed up the process, activator plants such as nettle or burdock can be used instead of leaves.
