A garden plot is often used not only for growing trees and shrubs, but also for creating a relaxation area. Often the garden is decorated with statues and figures. The most common garden figures are gnomes. It is not necessary to purchase ready-made gnomes. You can use simple DIY methods if you know how to make garden gnomes with your own hands.
The advantage of making figures yourself
Purchased garden figures often have a monotonous appearance. Therefore, it is necessary to highlight the following advantages of self-production:
- size and shape are determined independently;
- You can paint the figure according to your individual preferences;
- financial savings. A large number of figures are made from scrap materials.
The manufacturing process can be a fun hobby for all family members.
Manufacturing methods
Wood, concrete, plastic and other materials can be used to make a gnome.
Gnome made from a plastic bottle and plaster
For work you need to prepare the following materials:
- plastic bottle 2 liters;
- gypsum;
- old newspapers;
- PVA glue;
- water;
- glue gun;
- roll of toilet paper;
- paints.
In order to make a gnome, you need to cut off the bottom of the bottle. Make a T-shaped cut to a height of 7 cm. Bend the edges of the bottle inward so that you get 2 cylinders. The cylinders will act as legs.Wrap the top of the bottle with film to form a head.
Using newspapers, you need to make a paper cap and put it on the top of the bottle. Also, using newspaper, make feet and, rolling the newspaper into a tube, mount the arms and glue them to the bottle using a gun.
Glue pieces of newspaper onto the workpiece using PVA glue. Finely chop the remaining newspapers and pour boiling water over them. Leave for a day. Carefully spread the resulting adhesive mixture over the entire workpiece in a thick layer and leave until completely dry.
Tear a roll of toilet paper into pieces and fill it with water. Stir until the paper has a uniform texture. Using a colander, drain excess liquid and carefully squeeze out the paper. Add gypsum and mix until smooth.
Add 100 grams of PVA glue. Mix everything thoroughly and carefully coat the dried workpiece. At the location of the beard, plaster is applied in a thick layer. Dry for 2 days and paint.
Concrete gnome
It is necessary to prepare the following materials:
- stocking;
- concrete;
- a piece of fabric;
- threads
This original gnome is made very quickly. You need to pour the solution into a thick stocking and hang it on a rope. Using thread, make a potato-shaped nose by tying a small amount of solution in a stocking. You can leave the ends of the thread and thus form a mustache or beard.
Using a piece of fabric, bandage the area where the figure's cap will begin and leave it to dry for 3-4 days. After the figure has dried, it must be painted.
To make garden gnomes you need to use your imagination. Figures are often made from wood, but to do this you must master the art of carving. When making gnomes, you can give them different shapes and choose a design depending on the landscape of the garden.
