Terry items need very careful and delicate handling. However, even with proper care, over time the fabric becomes hard and rough; even special care products cannot save it.
Why does the product lose its original appearance?
Deformation and compaction of fabric pile can occur for several reasons:
- low-quality washing powder - remains on the fabric fibers during washing. It is highly undesirable to use phosphate-based detergents for washing;
- hard water – high mineral content makes the fabric harder;
- incorrectly selected washing mode - you cannot wash the product in too hot water and set the spin power to high;
- excessively dry air - when humidity is below 20%, the fabric dries out;
- classic ironing of the product - it is better to process the fabric using steam irons;
- low quality fabric - the worse the fabric, the shorter the product will last.
How to restore softness to a robe
The most effective ways to return a terry robe to its former softness and fluffiness are rightfully considered:
- Food or soda ash. In order to make the washing water softer, the product is poured directly into the drum of the washing machine.
- Salt. Before use, it must be thoroughly crushed so that it dissolves better. Dilute 50 grams of salt in 1 liter of water and pour into the tank. Or just pour it in with the washing powder.
- Acetic acid 9%. During washing, no more than half a glass of product is poured into the machine.This method will not only soften the fabric, but will also eliminate any unpleasant odor.
- Ammonia. The product must be soaked in cold water for 3-4 hours, adding a mixture of ammonia and salt. To do this, you need 1 liter of water, 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 1 tablespoon of salt. Mix everything thoroughly. After the time has elapsed, the robe is thoroughly rinsed and hung to dry.
- Tennis balls. To untangle the pile of the fabric and soften it during washing, 3-4 balls are placed directly in the drum of the machine.
Caring for terry products
In order for the products not to lose their original appearance in the future, but remain soft and fluffy, it is important to know and follow some simple rules:
- the temperature during washing should not exceed 40C. Also, the product must be additionally rinsed;
- when rinsing, it would be a good idea to add salt, vinegar or conditioner with silicone to the water;
- soaking the product for longer than 3 hours is not recommended. Otherwise, it will acquire a sharp unpleasant odor that is quite difficult to remove;
- it is better to rinse the robe by hand, as well as wring it out. It is best to let the excess water drain and hang it outside to dry;
- it is not recommended to iron terry products in the classic way. For this, it is better to use the vertical steaming method, while keeping the iron at a distance.
Compliance with these simple rules will not only restore the former tenderness of terry robes, but also maintain them in this form for a long time, enjoying the softness of the fabric.
