Grease stains are a headache for any housewife. Grease and oil stains are complex stains that any housewife has to deal with. In the case of this type of stain, minutes count: the grease is quickly absorbed, and the further it goes, the more difficult it will be to remove it. There are a thousand and one ways to get rid of such contaminants, and one of them is chalk. Yes, regular chalk that teachers use to write on the blackboard.
How it works
Chalk is an excellent absorbent, so it is highly effective in cleansing fat. It absorbs grease and leaves no trace of the stain.
To clean a stain you need to:
- Remove excess fat with a paper towel or napkin.
- Cover the contaminated area with chalk chips.
- Leave for 2-3 hours.
- Wash (for a better effect, before washing, you can additionally treat the stain with laundry soap or other available cleaning agent).
If the stain is complex, too large or several days old, you can additionally cover the treated area with a napkin and iron the area. In this case, the frozen fat will heat up, melt and it will be easier for it to be absorbed into the chalk crumbs.
If the fabric is hard, rough, for example, denim, the dirty area can be generously rubbed with a whole piece of chalk. If the fabric is more delicate, especially if it is light, it is better to first crumble the chalk and sprinkle the desired area with crumbs.
Which chalk to choose
A very important point: you only need to use regular white chalk for the board. Children's chalks for asphalt contain dyes and wax, which will only worsen the situation.
In what situations is the use of chalk justified?
This method does not guarantee complete disappearance of the stain. Sometimes additional processing is required. But if it is fresh and small in size, chalk is an emergency, effective tool that is worth using if nothing else is at hand. Therefore, it is recommended to keep it near the place where there is a risk of staining, for example, in the kitchen. And having several crayons in the house, in general, is useful for the household, since its functionality is wide: from whitening collars and removing dirt from walls and ceilings to cleaning jewelry and dishes from darkening.
You can also take chalk with you and put it in your bag so that, for example, in the event of an unsuccessful trip to a restaurant, you can revive your favorite blouse.
Thus, chalk will work best with greasy stains when the stain has just appeared on the clothing, and the grease has not yet had time to harden.
