There are situations when advice from older generations can be harmful. For example, when cleaning the house. What actions are best not to perform?
Every six months you need to do a general cleaning
In many families, the following order was established: general cleaning - 2 times a year or every 3 months. What is meant by general cleaning:
- Wipe windows and ceilings with a damp cloth.
- Vacuum the walls and remove cobwebs.
- Thoroughly wash kitchen cabinets, sinks, ovens, and household appliances.
- Clean the hood, tiles and cracks between them.
- Clean the bathroom until it shines and wash the tiles too.
- Do wet cleaning.
Most people associate spring cleaning with heavy duty. After all, instead of resting on their day off, they were forced to clean.
Nowadays, young people use other methods to keep their home clean. For example, daily zoned cleaning. To do this, you just need to divide the house into zones and devote 15–20 minutes to them every day.
Advice. You can share responsibility for cleanliness in the house among family members. And then there will be no need to “kill yourself” during spring cleaning.
Bed linen must be ironed
Previously, in order for the house to shine clean, it was necessary not only to do general cleaning regularly, but also to ensure that all bedding and underwear were ironed. “Only by ironing things will it be possible to get rid of parasites,” this is what mothers and grandmothers believed. And now the older generation wants this order to be strictly observed in young families.
But experts say: if you often iron bedding and underwear, this will have a bad effect on the quality of your sleep and your health. Why?
- After ironing, the structure of the fabric is disrupted, it becomes denser and does not allow air to pass through. Accordingly, the fabric does not absorb moisture, and the person becomes uncomfortable.
- Linen fabric cannot be ironed, as it loses its texture. And, therefore, the massage effect disappears.
- In modern washing machines, water is heated to 90 degrees, and thanks to this, bacteria are destroyed.
- Some machines are equipped with an “easy ironing program” function. And happy owners claim that the effect from such a function is similar to that of an iron.
Advice. If after washing the bed linen is shaken, pulled, folded carefully, the bed will look like it was ironed. And you don’t need to “steam” near the iron.
Wooden furniture should only be polished using folk remedies.
In Soviet times, there was a shortage of polishing agents. And the older generation used folk remedies to maintain furniture in perfect condition. They polished the furniture with a mixture of sunflower oil and lemon or wiped it with damp tea bags. And now they claim that these are ideal means. Firstly, they are chemical-free, and secondly, they are inexpensive.
But experts say:
- After applying a mixture of sunflower oil and lemon juice to wooden furniture, the surface becomes faded. And over time, this mixture makes the furniture sticky and moldy.
- A wet tea bag will not only not clean the wood of dirt, but will also provoke the appearance of fungus. Water and wood surfaces are incompatible.
Advice. It is better to polish furniture with a “Comfort” napkin. It is impregnated with natural wax and gives the surface shine.
Only women should clean the house
In many families it works out like this: the husband is the breadwinner, the wife does the housework. And this tradition is passed on from generation to generation. Accordingly, grandparents will demand that young people follow this rule. But stereotypes need to be changed.
It is now customary to divide household work among family members. How to do it?
- Create a cleaning schedule and post it in a visible place.
- Involve children in work. It is necessary to teach a child to order from childhood, and then he will have a craving for cleanliness throughout his life. He will also help his neighbors in cleaning the house.
- Do not criticize the quality of cleaning, otherwise you may discourage them forever.
- It is important to be sure to thank and encourage all family members.
Important. There will be order in the house if all family members adhere to the rule: “If you take a thing, then put it back in its place.”
The main thing is to wash the floor
The older generation has a stereotype: the main thing is to wash the floor. But experts from a cleaning company say: to keep your apartment clean, you should start from the top. If you do the opposite, then all the dust from the ceilings will end up on the floor.
Cleaning plan:
- You need to move from the farthest point of the apartment to the nearest one.
- Remove dust from lamps and chandeliers.
- Put things in closets and wipe down shelves.
- Clean the bathroom.
- Clean and clean kitchen cabinets.
- Clean kitchen utensils and utensils.
- Wash the baseboard.
- Wash the floor last.
Fact. Such tricks and techniques will help speed up the cleaning process and free up time for walks, relaxation and favorite activities.
Children and grandchildren should honor, appreciate, respect and pay attention to older people. Try to explain to them that life does not stand still. A different time has come with a new ideology. Nowadays children are born who learn different social norms. Young people even have a different attitude towards cleaning the house. And this happens not because the older generation is not respected, but because everything in this world is changing.
