A soft and pleasing carpet creates coziness in the house and makes the interior complete. No matter how expensive and high-quality the product is, over time it loses its original appearance and gets dirty: a child spilled juice, a pet left it, coffee dropped...
It is often possible to restore the former attractiveness of these things. Dry cleaning or other, more affordable, but no less effective methods will help.
Snow
Snow is a natural and proven method.
To clean a carpet with snow, you need freshly fallen clean precipitation and an area 5 times larger than the rug, since it will have to be thrown over several times.
The carpet is placed with the pile down, and the underside is dusted with snow, then thoroughly beaten out. Next, the carpet is turned over onto clean snow and the same manipulations are repeated as with the reverse side. The procedure lasts until the snow under the product becomes clean.
To bring the carpet into the house, it is important to carefully remove the snow and let the carpet dry.
This method is not as popular today as it once was, but it does not involve any costs and works.
Soda
Baking soda is great for cleaning floors at home. The well-known white powder is a good absorbent for odors and dirt; moreover, it has disinfectant properties.
Using soda you can organize dry cleaning. The powder is spread over the carpet with a dry sponge. After half an hour you need to go through the vacuum cleaner.
For the wet procedure, prepare a solution from one glass of soda and 5 liters of water. The floor covering is treated with a solution, preferably using a spray bottle, after about an hour everything is removed with a vacuum cleaner.
These are the simplest methods, but there are other recipes, for example:
- soda and vinegar: when these substances combine, carbon dioxide is released, which effectively fights even old stains and dirt;
- baking soda with hydrogen peroxide - this duo effectively removes stubborn stubborn stains. You need 2 tbsp. l. Mix soda with half a glass of 3% peroxide. Treat the stains with the resulting mixture and leave for 20 minutes.
Important: hydrogen peroxide has a bleaching property and is only suitable for light-colored coatings.
Laundry soap
This is a simple and affordable remedy, but it only works on fresh stains. As soon as a problem arises, the laundry soap is grated on a coarse grater and diluted with water in the ratio: per 1 liter 1 tbsp. l. soap The stain is treated with the mixture, and when the coating dries, the residue is removed with a vacuum cleaner.
There is a recipe for diluting 1 tbsp in soapy water. l. turpentine. In this case, you need to wipe the stain with a damp sponge and air the carpet.
Ammonia
Ammonia is one of the most effective remedies. It removes juice and wine stains well. The solution is made up of 1 liter of water and 2 tsp. alcohol The carpet is cleaned with a brush, which is dipped into the solution. It is not recommended to apply the mixture to the coating itself, as it behaves aggressively. After 5 minutes, the treated area should be wiped with a dry sponge.
You can mix ammonia with washing powder: 3 tbsp. l. powder and 1 tbsp. l. alcohol is diluted in 8 liters of water. The sponge is dipped into the solution and the carpet is wiped.
Salt
The most common salt can clean a carpet quite well. For greater effect, mix it with soda.
There are several options for cleaning items using salt:
- Sprinkle dry salt on the carpet, then rub it with a brush, after which the carpet is vacuumed;
- Spread the salt over the item, and prepare soapy water. Dip a broom in water to sweep away the salt - the carpet will have to be dried;
- Salt with lemon juice - this duet returns the brightness of the colors. Apply the mixture to the carpet and leave for 20 minutes, and then remove the remains with the same broom soaked in a soap solution;
- A simple solution of citric acid (10 g), salt (1 tbsp) and water (1 l) will refresh the colors and get rid of odors.
All the ingredients are well known and available, all that remains is to choose the most suitable recipe.
Gasoline and sawdust
The duo seems strange, even a little scary, but it has proven itself in the fight against problematic and old stains. But there is a downside - the smell lasts for 2-3 days.
You need to prepare the surface by vacuuming it thoroughly. Then prepare a special mixture: add gasoline to the soap solution in a ratio of 10 to 1. Next, soak the sawdust in the resulting mixture and distribute it over the problem areas. They remain in place until they are completely dry.
Choosing a suitable and convenient way to clean a carpet at home is easy. If you have any doubts, you can always turn to industrial products or use the services of professionals.
The best way to get rid of stains is to remove them immediately. This is not difficult if the housewife has the necessary tools and means in her arsenal. It is better to prepare for trouble in advance.
