How to remove coffee stains from clothes, furniture and carpet

Coffee stains on clothes, carpet and upholstered furniture are not always easy to remove, but there are affordable methods that can be used to eliminate all the consequences of a spilled drink. Coffee solution is an excellent dye. This is why coffee stains are difficult to remove - the liquid penetrates quite deeply into the fibers of the fabric, is quickly absorbed and stains the fabric itself a persistent yellow-brown or dark brown color.

If you quickly “react” to spilled coffee, then it’s not difficult to deal with this problem - fresh coffee stains can be easily washed off from any type of fabric.

Of course, most often, to remove coffee stains, a stain remover is used, which penetrates the structure of the fabric and can sometimes cope with old stains. Moreover, modern products do not contain aggressively active substances that destroy tissue. However, it must be said that the quality of removing a coffee stain depends more on how old it is, and not on the stain remover itself. Some old stains cannot be removed by any means, even the most expensive.

It is in this case that proven methods will come to the rescue, and a freshly applied stain can be easily removed with simple improvised means.

How to quickly remove a fresh coffee stain

A stain is considered fresh until it is completely dry. If possible, try not to let the coffee stains dry out - they will be much more difficult to clean later. If on the first try you are unable to completely remove the coffee, we recommend that you use tips for removing old stains.

On clothes

Immediately after coffee has been spilled on clothing, you must either rinse the area with cold water or blot it with napkins so that they absorb all the excess liquid. Then the fresh wet coffee stain should be covered with fine salt. Grind the salt a little and then wash the item in warm water. First, wash the stained area without detergent, and then wash the entire item in the usual way. It is necessary to iron the dried item only from the wrong side.

Salt mixed with glycerin also works well with fresh stains. To do this, you need to take a teaspoon of fine salt, add glycerin to it and make a kind of paste from the mixture. Apply the mixture to the stain, rub lightly and wait until the coffee stains discolor. Wash the item at the water temperature indicated on the label.

fresh coffee stain on clothesLight synthetic and silk fabrics can be washed in cool water with the addition of alcohol (0.5 liters of water and 1 tablespoon of alcohol). Just rinse the item in this solution and the stain should go away.

Freshly spilled coffee can be removed from wool and silk fabrics simply with glycerin. Slightly warm glycerin should be poured onto the stain and left for 10 minutes. Then put the item in soapy water for 10 hours and then wash it.

Coffee stains can be removed from white cotton fabrics with hydrogen peroxide. Before use, you need to check the tissue’s reaction to the substance - drop some peroxide somewhere in an inconspicuous place and wait 5 minutes to see if streaks appear. Then wet the stained area with hydrogen peroxide and after 10 minutes wash the item in cool water.

You just need to place a linen item under a stream of slightly warm water and gradually the coffee will be washed out of the fabric.

On upholstered furniture

It is not difficult to remove coffee stains from furniture, the main thing is to do it quickly. Moreover, all furniture fabrics are initially resistant to various “troubles”. The fastest way to do this is to use a kitchen sponge soaked in soapy water. You need to wipe the stain with it until it comes off. At the same time, there is no need to pour a lot of water on the furniture. After finishing the procedure, simply blot off all excess moisture with dry cotton napkins.

Coffee spilled on furniture can be washed off with a solution of glycerin and water (1 liter of water and 2 tablespoons of glycerin). Just wipe it with a sponge soaked in a glycerin solution.

On the carpet

coffee stains on the carpetIn this case, speed is also very important - blot up excess spilled liquid with napkins. Do not rub the surface under any circumstances, as this will cause the stain to spread even more. Apply the same action to the carpet as you would to furniture - wash away the stain with a sponge and soapy water.

You can quickly clean a carpet stain with glass cleaner. You need to moisten a cloth in detergent and wipe the stained area until the stain is completely removed. Then moisten another napkin in clean water and wipe the carpet clean of the product.

How to remove old coffee stains

Old coffee stains can be difficult to deal with. Here, the composition of the fabric and the age of the contamination itself play an important role.

On clothes

In most cases, clothing will need to be placed in cold water to soften old, dried stains before using your chosen removal method. If the dirt is minor, an industrial stain remover and regular washing in accordance with the composition of the fabric will do.

A mixture of ammonia (10%) - 2 tsp, glycerin - 0.5 tsp works well with old stains. and cold water. By the way, this is a universal recipe that suits all types of fabrics very well. This mixture must be applied to the coffee stain and left for a day, then rinse the clothes in cool water and wash in soapy water. Perhaps the only exception is that this mixture should not be used on delicate silk clothes.

For delicate fabrics, a mixture of washing powder and table vinegar (9%) is suitable. Mix the substances and add a little water to form a white paste. The resulting product is applied to the area of contamination on both sides and thoroughly rubbed into the fabric. After this, the clothes are rinsed in cool water. If the stain is not completely removed, then you need to repeat the entire procedure again. After removing the stain, wash the item as usual.

On upholstered furniture

A dried stain on the upholstery should first be softened with warm glycerin. To do this, moisten the cotton wool and wipe the area of contamination with it. Leave for 30 minutes, then rinse the area with water and dry. If slight stains remain, then you can use an aerosol stain remover.

On the carpetold coffee stains on clothes

Old dried stains on the carpet must be wiped with warm glycerin and then with alcohol (several times). Another effective way is a mixture of 1 tsp. salt and 10 drops of ammonia. This mixture is lightly rubbed into the old coffee stain and left in this form for 5 minutes. Then clean the carpet with a brush.

Spilled coffee stains on long-pile carpet can be removed using gasoline. Moisten the stain with gasoline, then wipe it several times with a cloth soaked in alcohol. After this, clean the carpet with carpet cleaner.

Remember that ammonia and gasoline are active substances with a poisonous odor. Be careful not to bring these liquids close to your face. Always work with rubber gloves.

When removing stains from clothes, furniture or carpets, be careful and try not to overdo it with active substances. First, “test” the resulting stain remover in a secluded place, so as not to accidentally ruin the entire thing.
