Most of us have to deal with the need to remove stubborn stains left by blood. It’s especially disappointing when stains remain on white, on one of your favorite things, or simply ruin good quality clothes.

Blood stains are one of the most difficult stains; they cannot be removed simply with powder and stain remover, so it is worth remembering a few basic recommendations.
How to remove fresh blood stains
Blood stains, like all other stains, are best washed with fresh stains, if possible. Usually, if a blood stain is immediately placed under a cold tap, rinsed thoroughly and soaped with laundry soap, it will disappear and will not leave even a trace. Do not forget to use only cold water (not hotter than 40 degrees), because in hot water the blood protein will cook and become well fixed in the fibers of the fabric.
- It is also worth trying to wash off an already dried stain first with soap or dish soap. Soak the cloth for 20-30 minutes, lathering the stain. Then scrub and rinse thoroughly.
- When the fresh stain has not even dried yet, blot it with a piece of cloth, but do not apply increased force. You can gently blot the stains with a cotton pad well soaked in hydrogen peroxide. If you rub the stain vigorously before washing, it will only set it better.
- For white fabrics, you can try using Domestos (colored or delicate fabrics like silk or chiffon can fade, fade or even break down).Just wet the stain, then apply Domestos on it and leave for a while. Before washing, thoroughly rinse the product from the fabric with running water.
- Blood stains can even be boiled, but only after washing in cold water. If you have already washed the item in cold water and soap, but a small mark still remains, you can put it in a container of cold water and bring it to a boil, adding a small amount of powder. The water must be cold and heat up along with the fabric.
- You can try removing the stain using lemon juice and salt. Prepare a paste and apply to the stain. After a while, rub with a sponge or rinse off immediately, after which you can wash as usual.
- Also, if the stain is recent, any good bleach will help. The main thing is to wash the stain in cool water. If you are afraid that it will not wash well, add any proven bleach or stain remover. Fresh stains come off easily.
How to remove dry and old blood stains
If you're dealing with an old blood stain, there are quite a few ways to remove it (unless, of course, the fabric was washed in hot water - after which the blood can no longer be removed).
- Soak the cloth in a salty solution. To do this you need to take only 1 tbsp. a spoonful of salt per liter of water. It is important to maintain proportions, because if there is too much salt, then the stain, on the contrary, is fixed, so that later you can’t wash it off with anything. Leave the soaked item for 8-10 hours, and then wash it with laundry soap in cool water.
- If the stain has already dried, but only appeared a few days ago, you can try using starch paste.Simply prepare a mixture of starch and water of uniform consistency and apply to the surface of the fabric. Leave the paste until it dries. Then simply shake out the remaining starch and wash the item as usual. Starch is especially good for removing stains from silk fabric.
- Ammonia is also used to combat blood stains. Prepare a solution of three teaspoons of ammonia and half a liter of water, soak the stain in it. After some time, carefully wipe the stain with a piece of absorbent cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide. Rinse in warm or cool water. Ammonia works especially well on stains on wool fabric.
- Hydrogen peroxide itself can also be used. But do not forget that peroxide can bleach some types of fabric, so test on an inconspicuous area before use. If the fabric and color are intact, apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain and wait about 5 minutes. The hydrogen peroxide will fizz and foam, destroying the stain. Gently blot the dirty foam with an absorbent cloth, such as an old towel. You can rub the stain well with a brush, but only after the hydrogen peroxide has taken effect, not before. If you start rubbing the stain right away, you will only rub it into the fabric and it will set in even more.
- For very old stains, you can try this solution: 1 teaspoon of borax, 1 teaspoon of ammonia (ammonia solution), 2 tablespoons of distilled water. Do not forget to rinse the fabric very thoroughly after treating it with this mixture.
- It is believed that blood stains on woolen fabrics are washed out well with aspirin. Dissolve the tablet in a glass of water and wash the stain. Rub well with a brush and rinse. Then simply shake out the remaining starch and wash the item as usual. Starch is especially good for removing stains from silk fabric.
