It's hard to imagine going for a walk or jogging without sneakers. Sports shoes are comfortable, and if they are white, they are also versatile. After all, it goes well with any clothes - from jeans to dresses. There is only one disadvantage of such shoes: they quickly become dirty and turn yellow. You can return your shoes to their snow-white appearance using improvised means that are easy to find in everyone’s home - baking soda and toothpaste.
Preparing your sneakers
Before you begin restoration, the shoes must be prepared. The first step is to remove the laces and insoles; they need to be cleaned separately. You can wash your sneakers in a washing machine or by hand.
To avoid losing its shape, dry it in a special dryer or in a well-ventilated area. Under no circumstances should you dry it in the sun or near a radiator, this will only cause yellow spots to appear.
Bleaching fabric sneakers
For this method you will need baking soda. If the contamination is severe, hydrogen peroxide should be added.
- Pour 5 tablespoons of soda into a container.
- Add 6 tablespoons of water or peroxide (depending on the contamination).
- Mix.
- Using an old, unnecessary toothbrush, rub the mixture over the entire surface.
- Leave until completely dry.
- Rinse with water and dry again.
This method effectively whitens and gives fabric sneakers a marketable appearance. At the same time, leather shoes cannot be cleaned with soda, since in addition to whiteness, unsightly scratches will appear.
Whitening leather sneakers with toothpaste
Leather shoes require a more delicate approach. The ideal option for cleaning is toothpaste. It is important to use a paste that does not contain additional impurities.
- Moisten a toothbrush or shoebrush with water.
- Apply a small amount of paste on it.
- Rub into yellowed and dirty areas until a whitening effect appears.
- Use a napkin or rag to remove any residue.
- Let the shoes dry.
With this method, dirt and yellow spots disappear literally before your eyes. Instead, shine and freshness appear. In addition, toothpaste has a polishing effect. After cleaning with it, scratches on your sneakers will be almost invisible.
By the way, it’s easy to clean laces with toothpaste. To do this, you need to dilute the paste in water and soak the laces in the resulting solution for a couple of minutes. To keep your sneakers looking presentable for as long as possible, you can use a water-repellent spray or a special transparent gel.
