Housewives are constantly looking for new means to cope with stains in kitchen utensils. The dish dryer, which is often covered with plaque or rust, is also not ignored. This household item is the face of a modern kitchen. And it’s very unpleasant when the dryer looks sad.
Use of household chemicals
A conventional dryer consists of two parts: a tray and a grid. And if the pallet is made of metal, traces of rust are not uncommon. To clean metal surfaces, Greenway Mystic paste or powder is recommended.
Methods for treating rust:
- Two teaspoons of powder are dissolved in 2 liters of water. The tray is immersed in the solution for 30 minutes. Rinse and wipe dry.
- The paste is applied to the rusty surface. After 20 minutes, wash off and dry.
The result is amazing. The good news is that the products not only restore the tray, but also, when carrying out similar actions, bring the dryer grate into decent shape.
This is a good choice, if you do not take into account the price of drugs from the Greenway company. And housewives often prefer reliable folk remedies - cheap, safe and effective.
Folk remedies
You can get rid of rust on a dish dryer with citric acid. You will need the following equipment:
- heating device (gas stove);
- large container (boil, saucepan, basin);
- citric acid – 200 g;
- water;
- sponge;
- Toothbrush.
Work algorithm:
- The pan is placed on the stove. Fill with water, which is heated to 90°.
- Pour in citric acid. Mix thoroughly. The oven is turned off.
- Remove the silicone feet (if any) from the grate and immerse it in a container.
- Leave for 1 hour.
- After time has passed, the grate is removed from the water and inspected.
Remains of rust are cleaned off with a sponge. For hard-to-reach places, use a toothbrush. If the rust is difficult to remove, add a little detergent.
Two problems may arise when using this method:
- The wire rack does not fit completely into the pan. In this case, the procedure is performed twice. First, the grate is cleaned from one end, then it is turned over and kept in hot water for another 1 hour.
- Lack of large capacity. You can use a plastic bucket or basin. Pour some cold water into it, and then boiling water. Citric acid is diluted in a separate container at a water temperature of 70-80°. After the acid has dissolved, the composition is poured into a plastic bucket. They continue to work according to plan.
Another effective way to tidy up your dish drainer.
Ingredients:
- 100 ml hydrogen peroxide;
- 40 g citric acid;
- 10 g table salt.
The components are combined and applied to the grill and metal tray for 1 hour. Red spots and smudges will disappear.
Painting a rusty dish drainer
If the dryer cannot be cleaned, it can be painted. Before this, paint and rust are completely scraped off the object using abrasive materials. The work is carried out carefully, since the grating is fragile and can be deformed under strong impact.
After cleaning, the grate is washed and dried.Then wipe with solvent or acetone. Painted with white enamel on metal or nitro enamel. After drying, the staining procedure is repeated. The dish dryer will get a second life.
These four ways will help you put off buying a new dish drainer. But you shouldn't use them often. It is much easier to clean the item with baking soda once a week.
Apply a spoonful of soda to a dish sponge, add a drop of peroxide or citric acid if desired, and wipe the grate and tray. This preventive maintenance will help keep your dish dryer immaculately clean and fresh. You will be able to forget about plaque and rust for a long time.
