Many people have a morally outdated Soviet-era library at home, which it would be a pity to throw out, and hardly anyone will read it. So, in order not to hand over books for waste paper, you can use them to make stylish exclusive things for your home, you just have to show your imagination.
Safe box
Our compatriots still have the habit of keeping money in books. And to hide a whole stack of cash or jewelry, hiding boxes are made from volumes. Cutting out some of the pages with a stationery knife is not difficult. The remaining sheets will serve as the walls of the box; they can be glued for strength. Such a cache can be placed on a shelf or stored on a nightstand as a full-fledged box.
Picture frame
An almost antique photo frame will be made from hard leather bound books. From the inside of the cover we cut out a rectangle 9.5 by 14.5 cm and glue a sheet of cardboard on top so that one side remains free. We insert your favorite photo through the free edge - and the frame is ready. The front side of the cover can be decorated with rhinestones, buttons or twine.
Watch
To make a designer watch, you need to take a working clock mechanism and an unnecessary hardcover book. We make a hole in the center of the cover to connect the dial and mechanism. You will have to cut an indentation into the pages to make room for the working clock block. Depending on the choice of literature (cooking, fairy tales or encyclopedia), such a clock can be hung in any room.
Ottoman
Furniture made from books is a new design trend: no matter what the originals come up with, you can make an ottoman yourself. We take a base for the ottoman, it can be a piece of fiberboard or a board, and place books 35–40 cm high on it. The main thing is that the volumes lie flat and are kept level.
We secure the books together with glue or a furniture stapler. We attach a soft seat on top. The ottoman looks very original, but due to its heavy weight it is not portable.
Bag
The leather book cover will become the basis for a unique bag. To make the bag functional, you need to sew handles to the cover and use thick fabric to drape the sides. If desired, the bag can be equipped with a zipper and lining.
Shelf
This shelf made from old books has two functions: it serves as a stand for small things and is itself an original decorative element. The most difficult thing about this shelf is cutting out the “legs”; for this you will have to use a grinder. The shelf is attached using a corner, which holds the entire decorative part.
Books deserve a chance to find a second life, even if they are old and no longer interesting. After all, as they say: “When you destroy a book, you destroy the whole world.”
