Beetroot is one of the crops that does not cause much trouble during storage. But we must approach the matter responsibly so that it remains fresh, juicy, and without damage until the next harvest. First of all, it is necessary to select varieties that do not deteriorate for a long time and retain their presentation. Let's look at some of them.
Bordeaux-237
The variety ripens in 95-110 days. Over many years of cultivation, it has proven itself well in all regions of the country.
Possesses:
- rounded root crop, quite large;
- thick skin, so it is well preserved at home;
- barely noticeable circles;
- resistance to low temperatures. Can be sown in autumn.
The plant requires a larger growing area than other varieties.
Egyptian flat
Plants are ready for harvesting after approximately 3.5 months. If sown even in late spring, it can be harvested early in the fall.
The variety is different:
- small flattened heads;
- dark, uniform pulp;
- excellent keeping quality;
- frost resistance;
- does not throw out flower stalks.
The seeds take a long time to germinate, and the rows are often thinned out. Therefore, it is necessary to sow them densely so that the crops are complete.
Cylinder
The variety has an average ripening period - 100 days after sowing, it is removed from the garden. Has the following parameters:
- the fruit has an elongated shape, 17 cm high and about 8 cm in diameter;
- does not spoil until the end of summer, maintaining excellent taste;
- juicy pulp of dark red color, without veins;
- pulls out of the ground without effort;
- high yield.
The disadvantage is the poor resistance of seedlings to low negative temperatures.
Renova
Refers to late-ripening varieties. It grows a root crop:
- middle cylindrical;
- rich burgundy color, no rings;
- pleasant sweetish taste;
- lies until the next harvest without damage.
It produces many sprouts from seed, so it is necessary to break up the plantings during the season.
Detroit
The growing season is about 15 weeks, during which time full ripening occurs.
It is characterized by the following qualities:
- round vegetable weighing up to 150 g;
- ringing is almost absent;
- sweet in taste;
- Storability is high.
The quality indicators of the product depend on the fertility of the soil.
Mulatto
A relatively young variety, bred by domestic breeders in 2003. Characteristics:
- smooth, medium-sized, almost round heads, convenient for cooking;
- unpretentious, drought-resistant;
- average yield;
- the tissues inside are dark brown, there are no white fibers;
- suitable for cooking, does not wither over the winter;
- retains color when cooked.
Young leaves may be damaged by return frosts.
When choosing a suitable assortment, you need to pay attention to the agrotechnical characteristics where it is zoned.
