In order to store and then use all winter until spring, it is, of course, better to use late varieties of carrots. But there is one thing. It is necessary to take into account the region of residence. In regions with a short summer period, late-ripening carrots may simply not have time to ripen, and then they will not last long in storage.
The best early varieties that retain their taste well
Most early ripening varieties have a very short shelf life. But at present, hybrids have been developed that can retain their properties and taste if all storage conditions are met.
Artek F1
Varietal species of Transnistrian selection. It was approved for use on the territory of the Russian Federation in 1983.
The root crop has the shape of a small cylinder, which has a slight slope towards the base. The carrots are not very large, their length is approximately 15 cm, thickness - about 4 cm in diameter. The mass of the root crop is also small, it ranges from 70 g to 130 g, and about 45% of the diameter of the root crop is occupied by the core. The pulp is juicy, fine-fibered. The color is bright, red-orange. You can see barely noticeable eyes on the surface of the fruit, and the surface itself is smooth.
Ripening occurs on the 52nd day, after the carrot has fully sprouted, and on the sixtieth day it can be dug up.If it is not removed in time, it will lead to cracking.
Fun F1
Zabava carrots are the result of the work of Russian breeders. In 1994, this species was allowed to be used for cultivation in a number of regions of Russia. Zabava's root crops are smooth, cylindrical-shaped with a blunt tip. The length of the root crop approaches 19 cm with a thickness of 4.5 cm and a weight of 45–80 g. Inside the root crop there is a medium-sized core. The core, like the pulp, is bright orange. The fun tastes great thanks to its high sugar and carotene content.
Ripening occurs 64 days after full germination, technical ripeness is achieved by 110 days.
The best mid-season varieties for storage
Nandrin F1
Nandrin is a variety of Dutch selection. Nandrin, like all other hybrids, has the correct shape and beautiful appearance. The fruits of this species are very smooth and do not have cracks or any other defects.
The shape of the hybrid is cylindrical, with a rounded tip. The root crop has an average length - about 20 cm, and reaches 5 cm in diameter. When full technical ripeness is reached, the weight of the fruit ranges from 150 to 250 g. This species is valued for the fact that it does not have a core, because nitrates accumulate in the core. Nandrin has a high taste due to its juicy and sweet pulp containing a high amount of carotene.
Shoots appear quickly, 14–16 days after sowing. The ripening period ranges from 75 to 100 days and depends on the growing region.
Samson
Samson carrot is a well-known variety bred by Dutch breeders. In Russia, this variety was included in the State Register in 2001 and adapted to the climatic conditions of many regions.Samson has a leveled appearance. Fruits with a rough and even ribbed surface. The root vegetables are large in size: length - up to 30 cm, diameter - 5 cm, weight - up to 150 g. The shape of this type of carrot is cylindrical, with a pointed end. It has a very small core that is slightly lighter than the bark, which is bright orange. Samson's fruits have juicy and fairly sweet pulp and have good taste.
Samson carrots ripen within 110–120 days from the moment the first shoots appear. The ripening period depends on a number of conditions: weather, soil fertility and agricultural technology.
Chance
Carrots of the Chance variety are the result of the hard work of breeders at the West Siberian Experimental Station. Approved for cultivation in 1998. Its roots are cone-shaped, but blunt-pointed. They reach a length of 20 cm and weigh up to 200 g. The skin of the root crop is smooth, and its color is orange-red. This hybrid has a large core, but this does not prevent it from occupying a high place in its taste, which is achieved through aroma, sweet taste and tender pulp.
Carrot shoots appear on the 15-20th day, and they reach technical ripeness around 115 days from the moment of emergence.
The best late varieties for storage
Canada F1
Canada is a type of carrot from Dutch breeders, included in the State Register of Russia in 2001. The root crops of this variety are ribbed and elongated-cone-shaped. The tip of the carrot is slightly pointed. Canada carrots are bright orange in color with a small core that is slightly darker in color than the main color. Root crops up to 26 cm long in the upper part have a diameter of up to 5 cm.This variety has a high beta-carotene content, and the sugar content depends on the fertility of the soil on which it is grown.
Carrots ripen 130 days after they emerge.
Anastasia F1
Anastasia carrots are the work of Dutch breeding scientists. Its root crops are large, smooth, cylindrical in shape with a pointed nose. The color is deep orange. With a mass of 160 grams, it can reach a length of 25 cm. The core is weakly expressed. High quality taste thanks to sweet and juicy pulp with a high carotene content.
Root crops ripen within 120-125 days if they are properly processed beforehand.
