Every farmer and summer resident tries to purchase high-quality planting material. Potatoes that will not be contaminated by bacteria and viruses and will be unattractive to pests. It is also important that this planting material responds well to agronomic practices and produces a good harvest with high quality tubers. From such material, after the first year of cultivation, seed potatoes of the first reproduction are obtained; they will not differ from the mother plant and will also produce high-quality tubers. But such material should be purchased at specialized garden stores.
"Kamensky"
A popular elite potato variety, included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements since 2009. “Kamensky” differs from other varieties in its very early harvest, keeping quality, good taste and marketability. The planting material of this potato is in demand for cultivation by large farms.
- The period of technical maturity is 45 days, although if you dig up on the 55-65th day, not according to the standards of precociousness, then the volume of the harvest will double. On average, its yield is 250 c/ha.
- The color of the peel is light red with small eyes, and the flesh is yellow and light.
- The potato is oblong-oval in shape.
- The weight of one potato is 95-108 g.
- The amount of starch is from 12 to 17%.
- It is highly resistant to diseases of the Solanaceae family, but is often affected by nematodes.
The purpose of this potato variety is for table use; it is versatile, tasty and suitable for winter storage in the cellar.
"COLOMBA"
“Kolomba,” like “Kamensky,” is popular among summer residents and farmers, although it entered the State Register later, in 2013. This variety is one of the first to reach consumers’ tables due to its early ripening period.
- Ripening time is 45-60 days, early digging will give less yield - on average, up to 150 c/ha, later digging - on the 60th day, up to 360 c/ha.
- The color of the peel is light yellow, the flesh is the same color, the eyes are small and medium.
- Appearance – oval-round.
- Tuber weight - 80-130 g.
- Contains from 11 to 15% starch.
- It is resistant to major diseases and nematodes.
Intended for table use, excellent taste, tolerates transportation well, lasts up to 6 months.
"Gala"
The variety belongs to the table type and has universal use. The taste is pleasant and received the highest rating. Suitable for salads and purees.
- Ripening time: 65-80 days, medium early. Productivity depends on the time of digging - from 200 to 390 c/ha.
- The color of the peel is yellow, the flesh is darker than the peel, the eyes are small.
- Oval, elongated shape.
- One tuber weighing 70-125 g.
- Contains from 10 to 13% starch.
- During tests it showed good resistance to pests and diseases (cancer, late blight).
Shelf life: 4-6 months. Less susceptible to rotting processes.
"Queen Anne"
A universal table variety, with high consumer qualities, the taste is pleasant, slightly sweet, aromatic. Suitable for salads, purees, baking.
- The average ripening time is 80-90 days. Productivity is stable, average, depending on the time of digging. If you carry out the first digging on the 60-65th day, the yield will be up to 111 c/ha, with full ripening - up to 500 c/ha.
- The color of the peel is dark yellow, the flesh is yellow, the eyes are small.
- Shape – oval, elongated.
- Weight - 85-140 g.
- Contains from 13 to 14% starch.
- Favorably tolerates major diseases and pest attacks.
"EVOLUTION"
Dutch variety, included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements. “Evolution” tastes pleasant, creamy, slightly sweet, and is intended for table use.
- Medium early, ripening period - 65-80 days. Productivity - from 215 to 550 c/ha. Forms up to 15 large potatoes on one bush.
- The skin is bright red and the flesh is pale yellow.
- Shape – oval, elongated.
- The weight of one tuber is 85-145 g.
- Starch content - from 11 to 16%.
“Evolution” is high-yielding, but has disadvantages, it is moderately susceptible to fungal diseases, and does not tolerate long periods of precipitation.
"FLAMENCO"
The variety was bred in Holland, high-yielding, universally used, table variety. It has a long shelf life and is suitable for storing for the winter. Tolerates dry weather and prolonged rainfall well.
- Medium late, ripening period - 110-120 days. Productivity is very high - from 260 to 610 c/ha. Up to 12 potatoes are formed on one bush.
- The skin is red-violet and the flesh is pale yellow and turns white after cooking.
- Shape – oval, elongated.
- The weight of one tuber is 110-150 g.
- The amount of starch is from 12 to 14%.
"Flamenco" is rarely attacked by pests, but is moderately susceptible to fungal diseases.
The correct choice of planting material is half the way to obtaining a high yield. Therefore, it is better to take more expensive, proven potato varieties that are suitable for home consumption and the ability to sell.
