Potatoes require elements such as nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus to develop. To saturate the soil with these substances, organic fertilizers alone are not enough. The solution to the problem is the use of complex solid fertilizer - nitroammophoska.
Features of nitroammophoska
Nitroammofoska or azofoska is a complex granular nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Azofoska contains macroelements necessary for the full development of plants.
Azofoska completely dissolves in water, but this is a long process. The product is not affected by precipitation, and some of the substances can remain in the soil until the next season. However, due to the fact that nitrates accumulate in the soil, it is not recommended to use azofoska for more than 2 years in a row. During the break, it is better to switch to organic fertilizers.
Nitroammophoska has several varieties depending on the percentage of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus, among them the following are distinguished:
- 16:16:16 – for all types of soils;
- 19:9:19 – for arid regions;
- 22:11:11 – for depleted soils.
Advantages of nitroammophoska for potatoes
The composition of azofoska is ideal for potatoes, satisfying their nutritional needs. The fertilizer is recommended for use for late, mid-season and mid-early varieties.
After application, plant growth is activated, strengthening occurs, resistance to weather conditions and diseases increases. Productivity also increases, and tubers contain more nutrients. Among other things, azofoska helps to increase the shelf life of potatoes.
Application rules
The consumption of azofoska is minimal - usually 40 g per 1 m 2. To increase efficiency, add up to 4 grams of the product to each hole - a teaspoon without a slide. You should not put too much. Nitroammophoska goes well with organic fertilizers, so, in addition to it, you can add a glass of humus to the hole.
The soil for adding mineral fertilizers must be warmed up, otherwise nitrates will remain in the upper soil layer. It is recommended to store nitroammophoska in a sealed plastic bag. It is important to remember that the shelf life is 18 months.
Nitroammophoska is a fertilizer that promotes potato growth and saturates its tubers with nutrients. However, in order for the product to help and not harm, it is important to follow these rules:
- Do not violate the consumption rate.
- Do not apply to cold soil.
- Do not use for more than 2 years in a row.
- Use before the expiration date.
