In order not to permanently ruin soiled clothes, you should have an idea of how to properly remove glue on clothes, depending on the specific case.
Regardless of the brand of adhesive and the type of damaged fabric, three basic rules apply to all cleaning methods:
- If an outfit is stained with glue, you should start cleaning immediately.
- Dried traces of glue are much more difficult to remove from fabric than new ones.
- First, you need to immediately blot the stain with a paper napkin, and then try to remove the remaining adhesive layer with a sharp knife.
- Before starting to treat the stained area, you need to test the effect of the cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area of clothing.
Often, stain removal requires a combination of several methods. Which ones and with the use of which drugs depends directly on the type of glue. Carpentry, wallpaper, PVA, silicate glue are of the water-soluble type. Therefore, while the marks are fresh, you can get rid of them simply by washing things in running water. But after drying, it becomes much more difficult to remove stains.
How to choose a product depending on the type of adhesive
PVA glue very common in household use. Therefore, traces from this glue are the most common. But removing such stains from fabric is not a hassle:
- fresh traces of PVA can be easily washed off from any type of fabric using laundry soap and warm water;
- Stubborn glue stains on jeans, cotton or linen will disappear if you rub the stain with a cotton pad soaked in alcohol;
- to clean sensitive suede, hold the stained area for ten minutes in steam, and then rub the stained area with a napkin soaked in ammonia;
- using a solution of "White Spirit" or gasoline, you can get rid of stains on upholstered furniture or carpets;
- to save silk fabrics, put the clothes in the freezer for one hour, and then carefully knead the frozen brittle glue.
Silicate glue dissolves remarkably well in a solution of baking soda. To obtain a solution, add a spoonful of soda to a liter of water. Soak the stained item for two hours, and then brush off the glue with a brush and wash the clothes in the usual way.
Traces from superglue are very difficult to remove. If the manufacturer is listed as China, then it will be easier to get rid of the stain. Difficulties will arise when the stain was left by Moment glue. There are several known ways to clean clothes:
- apply the pharmaceutical drug Dimexide to a cotton pad and rub the stained area. Rinse off the residue thoroughly under running water;
- place the stained item in the freezer or soak in hot water. Due to the effect of different temperatures, the structure of the glue becomes brittle and can be cleaned off with a stiff brush;
- a white cloth can be cleaned of glue residue with a nail polish remover containing acetone;
- if the glue is made in China, then you can get rid of the marks by washing the items with laundry soap;
- dried marks from Moment glue for shoes can be easily removed from suede and leather surfaces with a nail file. Rub the affected area with light circular movements.Or wipe the remaining adhesive layer with a cloth soaked in nail polish remover without acetone;
- “Wallpaper moment” can be easily removed from the material after washing in a warm soapy solution;
- You can also use 9% vinegar to remove traces of Moment. Dilute a tablespoon of vinegar in two tablespoons of water and wet a cotton cloth. Apply to the desired area and leave for an hour. After time has passed, remove any remaining glue by rubbing with the same cloth. If necessary, the procedure can be repeated until the desired result is obtained.
Epoxy adhesive will help remove a mixture of turpentine and alcohol in a 1:1 ratio. Or you can use solvent 646. However, it is worth considering that the solvent is a highly flammable substance. To remove contamination, apply the solution to the stain and wait until the frozen mass becomes soft. After that, remove the residue with a stiff brush and be sure to wash the item to avoid the harmful effects of chemicals.
Stains from rubber glue, can actually be removed using purified gasoline. It is necessary to generously wet the stained area with gasoline and cover it with a handful of talcum powder. Leaving it like this for a while, then you should wash the outfit in the washing machine.
Factory-made products for getting rid of traces of glue
If traditional methods do not help to overcome stains, then you need to buy a special product “Super Moment Anti-Glue”. The manufacturers of this product claim that it can cope with stains from any type of glue. Before use, please note that the composition contains acetone.The presence of this caustic component predicts the use of this drug with extreme caution, especially on dyed and fading fabrics.

Like the previous product, it should be used carefully and with caution, as it can ruin the color of the material.
