Every time you go through your closet, there are things in it that you haven’t worn for years, but you just can’t bring yourself to throw them out. Either it’s a favorite sweater and you don’t want to part with it, or it’s just a thing that you’ve worn twice but didn’t like. Each of these sweaters will make useful and beautiful home accessories.
Cushions
Stylish, cute and soft thought pillows can be made from any sweater. The only thing is! So this jacket should not be very “coughy”, since old and torn clothes will not make a beautiful thing. It is enough to cut off the sleeves and neck of the sweater, cut out 2 squares measuring 40 by 40 cm from the back and hem.
Sew the edges of the “pillowcase” on three sides, and put foam rubber or a ready-made pillow inside the cover. For convenience, the free edge is decorated with buttons, a zipper, or simply sewn over the top.
Vases, candlesticks
Such knitted decor for flowerpots or candlesticks gives the room a homey feel. It is convenient to cut off part of the sleeve to the required length, process the cut with an overlocker or stitch it with a blind seam manually. And put the resulting stocking on the potty. Flowerpots with voluminous knitting on a plain fabric look especially impressive: plaits, braids or knots.
Plaid
To make a blanket, you will need about 5-6 sweaters. If you have the desire, but don’t have enough unnecessary sweaters, then you should take the help of friends, who probably also have old sweaters in their closets, or visit a Second Hand store.
First of all, you need to rip the sweaters apart at the seams and remove all the decor: buttons, zippers, pockets, etc. Then prepare several templates from cardboard, which will then be quite easy to use to cut the sweaters. In this case, squares of 15 by 15 cm and rectangles of different lengths were used: 10 by 25 cm, 15 by 20 cm and 10 by 15 cm. All that remains is to cut out the segments and arrange them into large parts.
You can sew with a straight stitch on a machine or use an overlocker. Having formed large parts, they are sewn together. Now the blanket is ready; if necessary, you can sew on the lining.
Cat bed
It’s quite easy to make an original and comfortable cat bed. By the way, already worn things with puffs or even stains are suitable for this. The animal will still be happy, because the “pillow” was made by you personally.
We take a regular sweater, cut off the neckline if available and sew the hole. We sew the sleeves to the floors on the sides, forming a solid fabric. We put a pillow or thick foam rubber into the main part of the sweater, and pieces of fabric, holofiber or padding polyester into the sleeves, they will serve as a side.
We sew the sleeve cuffs together with a hidden seam. And the “house” for the cat is ready for use.
Chair Seats
Such beautiful seats for chairs and stools are made in the same way as thought pillows. The only exception is that foam rubber or thin insulation is inserted inside the cover so that the “seat” remains flat, but at the same time soft. You can sew ears to the corners of the “seat”, thanks to which it will not move off the chair.
Favorite things can serve for years not only as clothing, but also as original home decor. So it's time to reconsider your winter wardrobe and invent a new life for your old cardigan.
