Before throwing away your old, worn items, you need to read this article. What if you turn out unnecessary clothes into stylish and cozy slippers?
From jeans
Denim fabric is very dense and abrasion-resistant, making it ideal for making house shoes.
First you need to make a pattern for future slippers. On a piece of paper, draw a line around your foot with a pen and add 1 cm on all sides - this will be the pattern of the sole. We measure the distance from sole to sole through the instep of the leg - this is the width of the upper part. For the sole you will also need thick leather or rubber; it will serve as the base, and the jeans section will be inside.
We cut out the details of the slippers using the patterns. We stitch all the parts together and sew them on using a sewing machine. For beauty, you can trim the edges with ribbon or bias tape.
From a sweater
The principle of making sweater slippers is similar to denim ones, but for the upper part of the stocking slippers you do not need to cut out a pattern, you just need to cut the sleeves of the same length, they will serve as “stockings”.
For the sole, cut out a piece of leather of the required size and a blank from a sweater. You can also use a piece of linoleum as a sole. We put a warm knitted lining on the leather insole and sew it together. Then we sew the stocking sleeve to the sole using a hand overcast stitch. For greater strength, you can take a finished sole (or thick insole) and sew a piece of sleeve to it.Warm and soft slippers are ready.
If the sleeves slide down the leg, then you can stretch a ribbon or lace at the top of the stocking and tie it on the leg, or you can sew an elastic band to the inside of the “cuff”.
From T-shirts
This method of making slippers is suitable for those who know how to knit and know what a 7–10 mm hook is. Instead of yarn, a knitted “thread” is used.
To do this, take a plain T-shirt, cut off the top part so that you get a closed fabric. Strips 1 cm thick are cut diagonally from the knitted fabric, and the strips are wound into balls. Before knitting, the balls are dipped in boiling water for 5 minutes to prevent further stretching.
Start knitting from the sole. First, knit a chain of the required length, and then knit the sole using double crochets according to the pattern. Next, the upper part of the slippers is knitted. The parts are fastened together with the same knitted “thread” in two folds. You can use bows, ribbons and even rhinestones as decoration. These slippers are very light and comfortable, and the knitting process will take a maximum of 2-3 hours.
Masters also suggest making slippers from terry towels or felt; you just need to use your imagination, then you won’t have to spend money on factory-made house shoes.
